2013 Triumph Daytona 675 Motorcycle photos and review

2013 Triumph Daytona 675 Motorcycle photos

Now for 2013 Triumph has unleashed an all-new Daytona 675 and Daytona 675R, with a brand-new engine, new frame, fresh and sophisticated new bodywork and a host of other changes built on everything Triumph has learned from the enormously successful outgoing model. A few tweaks and modifications would have kept the 675 on the pace, but the 2013 Daytona is set to raise the bar once again.

Triumph's Daytona 675 shook up supersport convention with its three-cylinder, 675cc format when it first appeared in 2006, then it did the same to the established order by setting new class performance standards.

picture 1Ever since its debut the Daytona has consistently topped comparison tests, won awards around the world and even trounced high-specification superbikes in the prestigious international Masterbikes shootout, winning this toughest and most comprehensive test of all sports bikes two years in a row. Race versions have taken titles around the world and six years later it's still a winner on the track. Yet it's the Daytona's razor-sharp style and growling, muscle-packed character which has appealed just as much to its dedicated owners.

The result is a bike which is 3lbs. lighter than the old model, with more power, an extended rev range, greater precision, feel and agility. It's faster on the track, better on the road and even more satisfying to own.

picture 2The heart of the new Daytona is its new engine, which brings more performance and a subtly new character, too. The key change is the wider bore and shorter stroke dimensions, allowing a higher 14,400rpm rev limit to gain more power and a broader spread of usable revs. Facilitating this is the new block, separate from the upper crankcase and with ceramic coated aluminum bores so it can be made stronger to cope with the higher pressures. Power is up 2bhp to 126bhp, peaking earlier at 12,600rpm and revving on for longer. The torque maximum is 2ft.lbs higher at 55.3lb.ft, with an increase across the rev range.

On the intake side are new twin injectors per cylinder, aiding the power and torque gains as well as improving fueling accuracy and efficiency. For the first time, titanium valves are fitted, helping the engine achieve higher revs and allowing Triumph's engineers room to reshape them to improve gas flow. This has been so effective there has been no need to increase the valve diameter, despite the wider bore. It's further helped by the new larger section intake, which flows air straight into the center of the bike, right through the headstock, and as a major bonus this increases the quality and volume of the signature three-cylinder snarling intake roar for the rider.

picture 3The exhaust system is a clear change as the compact and purposeful new unit now sits beneath the engine rather than beneath the rear seat. This is a consequence of the mission by Triumph's engineers to centralize the bike's mass as much as possible and move the weight forward, key factors in making the new Daytona even more agile and yet more stable at speed.

The transmission features a new slip-assist clutch to provide a lighter lever action and help prevent rear wheel hop under heavy braking. This is aided by the engine management which opens the throttle butterflies to reduce engine braking.

As well as incorporating the new, innovative intake duct, the frame uses fewer sections in its construction for a cleaner, stronger design and has sharper geometry and a shorter wheelbase to make full use of the revised mass distribution. The rear subframe, constructed from high pressure die cast aluminium, not only looks fantastic but contributes to the slim, sharp design at the rear of the bike.

The suspension is new and includes the latest fixed-cartridge forks from KYB (formerly Kayaba) and revised rear shock. High-performance Pirelli Supercorsa tyres are fitted as standard. The new switchable ABS system, which weighs just 3lbs., includes a late intervention track setting which allows rear wheel drift.

The ergonomics are altered slightly, with a 10mm reduction in seat height and a little less weight placed on the wrists, but the riding position is still designed for the best control at high speed and on the track.

The new bodywork has a sharper, leaner look that also reflects the higher quality of the new bike. Features such as the deliberately split upper fairing add an air of class, while the attention to detail has moved to a new level and includes a highly attractive upper yoke, machined engine mounting bolts, plugged swingarm mounting plate, a revised cockpit area and quickly detachable number plate/tail-light unit for easy track day conversion.

New lightweight wheels provide lower inertia which assists the speed of turn and the speed of acceleration. It all adds up to a more involved ride.

The comprehensive LCD multi-functional instrument pack features digital speedometer, fuel gauge, trip computer, analog tachometer, lap timer, gear position indicator, programmable gear change lights, and a clock. The unit is able to report tire pressures when Triumph’s accessory Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is fitted, while switchable ABS (compatible models) can be easily configured via the display.

For added security, an electronic immobilizer is included as standard.

2013 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade Review

In 2013, the CBR1000RR will be available in two new colour versions: Tricolour and Repsol.

The 2012 CBR1000RR built on the legacy of "total control" that had shaped its predecessors for 20 years since the introduction of its original ground-breaking forerunner, the CBR900RR, at the EICMA show in 1991. Since then, successive evolutions of the machine have layered advancement upon advancement, while retaining its defining strength of a perfect balance between power and control.

Under the overall development concept of "natural evolution of Super Sports", the 2012 CBR1000RR development team concentrated their efforts on the chassis to enhance riding enjoyment even further. In particular new wheels and new front and rear suspension systems were introduced for even better handling, traction and braking performance. The advanced Balance Free Rear Cushion rear suspension was a world-first for a production motorcycle.

The team also created a new, even more aggressive styling to better communicate the dynamism and sheer speed of the new CBR1000RR. In addition, the already comprehensive instrument panel was updated with additional functionality making the bike more user-friendly.

2013 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade Key Features

Styling
Dynamic styling package
The nose, layered main fairing and tail section create an aggressive and a dynamic look.

Suspension
Balance Free Rear Cushion
The advanced Showa rear shock system (offered for the first time on a production motorcycle on the 2012 CBR1000RR) uses a double-tube design to ensure smoother and more accurate response, superior damping and improved traction.

Big Piston Front Fork
The CBR1000RR also features inverted 43mm telescopic forks with Showa's Big Piston technology. With a unique design to reduce internal pressures, the Big Piston Front Fork offers improved damping, increased front tyre grip and better stability under braking.

Wheels
12-spoke wheels
Stunning 12-spoke cast aluminium wheels provide consistent rigidity to work with the forks and deliver improved handling.

Brakes
Optional Combined ABS
The Fireblade can be experienced with Honda's advanced electronically-controlled Combined ABS braking system, which offers all the reassurance of Honda's Combined Brake System and antilock braking.

Engine
PGM-DSFI settings
The CBR1000RR has a hugely powerful 999cc inline-4 engine; the fuel injection settings make it smooth and easy to use, particularly at smaller throttle openings.

2013 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade Features and Benefits

Styling

Embodying speed and dynamism
The previous CBR1000RR was designed around the keynote themes of 'compact dimensions', 'lightweight' and 'mass centralisation'. For 2012, it was decided that the styling should underline the sheer speed and dynamic potential of the CBR1000RR. Some styling keys remain - for example, the familiar vertical slit in the fairing side panels was retained, providing visual tension. The result is a more graceful profile that draws the eye from the sharper nose, and revised air intakes, to a more elegant tail. The overall effect is a more dynamic and faster-looking machine, one whose strongly-defined lines leave no doubt as to its performance potential.

Aerodynamically functional layered fairing.
The CBR1000RR incorporates the layered fairing concept resulting in improved functionality. The fairing creates a large pocket of calm air around the rider, improving comfort, while also helping draw air through the cooling system. These intricately worked surfaces also add to the machine's aggressive looks. An integrated chin spoiler in the nose also reduces aerodynamic lift at speed, improving handling.

Suspension

Unique Balance Free Rear Cushion
The main objectives for further developing the CBR1000RR's suspension set-up were a smoother suspension action, improved rider feel and increased grip and traction. The rear suspension system uses the Unit Pro-Link configuration and introduces the first Balance Free Rear Cushion produced by Showa on a production motorcycle.

Developed in conjunction with world-leading suspension specialists Showa, instead of the conventional single-tube layout, the Balance Free Rear Cushion uses a double-tube design: the damper case and an internal cylinder. The damper piston features no valves. Instead the damping force is generated as displaced oil passes through a separate damping component.

In the conventional structure, the compression-side damping force was generated in two places with the main and sub damping valves, but elimination of the sub valve and concentration in one place allows pressure changes within the cushion to be controlled even more smoothly. And because there is no small amount of oil being used at high pressures, damping force response is improved and damping force can function smoothly during load input. Moreover, damping force can be generated smoothly when switching from tension to compression due to smooth pressure changes.

The Balance Free Rear Cushion delivers more consistent damping over the duration of a ride, plus improved shock absorption and therefore greater traction since contact is more consistently maintained between the rear tyre and the road or track surface. This technology has been proven in both the prestigious Suzuka 8 Hour race and the MFJ Superbike All Japan Road Race Championship. Indeed a CBR1000RR Fireblade fitted with a Showa Balance Free Rear Cushion won the 2010 Japanese Superbike championship, underlining the advantages of this advanced new suspension solution.

Easily accessed rear suspension adjusters
The combination of Honda's Unit Pro-Link rear suspension and the Showa Balance Free Rear Cushion brings more than simply improved rear suspension performance and increased traction. To allow road and track riders to more easily adjust the rear compression and rebound damping performance, the adjusters have been placed prominently on the top of the shock body, offset to the left. As a result the rear suspension can be more quickly adapted to suit different riding conditions and requirements.

Big Piston Front Fork
To complement the Balance Free Rear Cushion, the front suspension system comprises a pair of inverted 43mm telescopic forks with Showa's Big Piston Front Fork technology. The forks use a unique construction with a bigger damping volume to effectively reduce the hydraulic pressure generated as the forks compress and extend. The result is reduced play during the initial stroke and smoother damping, helping maximise tyre contact with the road or track, giving the rider improved handling, a reassuring feel from the front tyre and enhanced stability during hard braking.

Wheels
12-spoke cast aluminium wheels
The 2012 CBR1000RR featured new 12-spoke cast aluminium wheels which offer more consistent rigidity. Together with the new suspension, these wheels provide improved handling and feedback for the rider.

Frame
Aluminium frame with optimised rigidity balance
The CBR1000RR's four-piece aluminium frame combines all the most desirable attributes of a high-performance frame. It delicately balances the strength, rigidity and lightness required for both superb handling and a strong power-to-weight ratio. Wrapped tightly around the main components of the machine, the frame also contributes to the centralisation of mass, a guiding principle of Honda's racing and road-going bikes that contributes to both stability and responsive handling. At the rear of the frame the gull-wing swingarm is deliberately long. It works with the innovative Unit Pro-Link rear suspension, a configuration derived from Honda's 990cc RC211V MotoGP racer, to deliver outstanding traction and high levels of rider feedback.

Steering Damping
Second generation HESD Honda Electronic Steering Damper
Conventional hydraulic steering dampers increase high-speed stability but bring unfavourably heavy steering at low speeds. The CBR1000RR's HESD system monitors the bike's speed and tailors the damping force accordingly. It enhances stability at speed by minimising sudden steering angle changes while also leaving the steering light and uncorrupted at low speed.

Brakes
Unrivalled braking power
Since 2009 the CBR1000RR has been offered with optional electronically-controlled "Combined ABS" (C-ABS), a high performance antilock braking system which has been specifically developed for Super Sport machines. This revolutionary system does away with the pulsating effect associated with conventional motorcycle ABS technology, leaving the rider free to enjoy safe and powerful braking without the risk of locking a wheel, even on a racetrack. At the same time the Combined Braking System also continually optimises the front/rear distribution of the braking effort being applied.

Exhaustive testing on both road and track has shown that the C-ABS system allows the full use of the available braking power without wheel locking or pitching. Modifications to the amount of front braking activated when first applying the rear brake on the 2012 model created even more stable braking performance.

The powerful front brakes comprise a pair of radially-mounted four-piston calipers and a pair of floating 320mm discs. To reduce weight and ensure optimal rigidity, the monoblock calipers are machined from a single piece of aluminium.

Equipment
Full LCD Instrumentation
The CBR1000RR uses multi-function LCD instruments to communicate everything from gear position to coolant temperature and speed. The cockpit display is dominated by a digital bar-type linear tachometer that scrolls from left to right as the engine speed increases. Beneath this are the main numerical readouts: gear position, coolant temperature, speedometer, clock/lap time, trip/fuel efficiency/fuel consumption and odometer/numerical tachometer. At the bottom of the display are lights for such functions as headlight high beam, neutral and indicator function.

Customisable tachometer
Clear and easy to read in all light conditions, the tachometer has four display modes: Conventional, which uses black LCD segments to show current rpm; Reverse, which uses black LCD segments to show remaining rpm; Peak Hold, which indicates rpm in the conventional way and also leaves a tell-tale segment showing the peak rpm achieved; and Single Segment, which uses a single segment to show current engine speed. In addition, the odometer may be switched to display engine rpm numerically.

Lap timer
Four modes are available on the lap timer, an important tool for circuit riding. As well as the lap timer itself, the display can show fuel consumption, average fuel efficiency, travelled distance and total elapsed time. To assist debriefing after a session, lap time recall mode shows the fastest lap time and the lap on which it was set.

5-level shift indicator
To maximise performance and ensure gear shifting at the optimum engine rpm, the 5-level shift indicator display uses highly visible white LEDs, adjustable for brightness. The LEDs illuminate sequentially as the engine rpm rises, finally blinking at a chosen preset rpm (default is 13,000rpm but this can be set between 4,000rpm and 13,000rpm). The interval between sequential illumination can also be set at 0, 200 or 400rpm.

Engine
Compact, powerful and lightweight liquid-cooled DOHC inline 4-cylinder
The Fireblade has always used an inline 4-cylinder engine combining a high specific power output with the low weight and compact dimensions required for a compact, agile chassis. The engine is designed to achieve high engine speeds, with a bore of 76mm, a stroke of 55.1mm - giving a total displacement of 999cm3 - and a nickel-silicon carbide (Ni-SiC) surface treatment on the cylinder walls to reduce friction and ensure complete reliability, even in competition use. Lightweight engine internals contribute both to engine performance and handling, by helping reduce the machine's overall weight.

Precise control
The settings of the race-bred Programmed Dual Sequential Fuel Injection system (PGM-DSFI) were revised for 2012 to ensure even more precise fuelling and a usable power delivery at all times. Particular attention was paid to the PGM-DSFI settings at small throttle openings.

The CBR1000RR engineers focused on the engine's response at low speeds so that when riding winding country roads or when cornering at low speeds, the response will be delicate, predictable and progressive. By analysing throttle inputs and engine response in these conditions, the 2012 CBR1000RR achieved an improved level of control at throttle openings of up to 25%. At such openings the fuel injection has been set to deliver small changes in power and torque output. Then, as the throttle opening becomes larger, these changes in output become progressively greater. The result is an engine that responds with greater accuracy to the rider's inputs, giving a greater road-holding feel from the rear tyre, enhanced manoeuvrability, even on demanding sections of road or racetrack, and highly usable, linear acceleration.

Smooth, accessible performance
Despite its prodigious levels of power and torque, every effort has been made to ensure the engine functions as an integrated part of a balanced Super Sport riding experience. In 2010 the alternator flywheels were made bigger and crankshaft rigidity increased accordingly. These changes increased the inertial mass of the crankshaft by 6.87%, ensuring a smoother and more consistent power delivery together with improved throttle control. Refinements such as a move to an aluminium cylinder head sealing bolt, a thin-walled flange section for the exhaust pipe and a smaller fan motor were made at the same time to avoid an increase in overall weight.

Exhaust emissions
The exhaust system has been made to reduce the emission of harmful exhaust gases. A high-absorption catalyser material has been adopted within the exhaust, which together with the oxygen sensor, constantly tailors the fuelling for the most efficient combustion mixture ensures full EURO-3 compliance.

Assisted slipper clutch
The CBR1000RR is fitted with a slipper clutch of the same type as that used in the 800cc RC212V MotoGP racer. The design ensures full power transmission together with ultra-smooth gear shifting and a light lever feel. In the critical corner-entry phase, when the rider must brake, judge their cornering line and shift down the gearbox simultaneously, the slipper clutch decreases the burden by reducing the torque passed from the engine to the rear wheel, reducing the chance of rear tyre losing traction and therefore increasing stability and ensuring smooth clutch operation.

Colours
The 2013 CBR1000RR will be launched in five colours.

- Tricolour (NEW!)
- Repsol (NEW!)
- Pearl Sunbeam White
- Victory Red
- Graphite Black

Model history

In November 1991 Honda unveiled the CBR900RR - a machine that would revolutionise the Super Sport sector. Since the arrival of the first Superbike, the CB750, more than 20 years earlier, much had changed. Chassis rigidity, four cylinder engine performance and suspension sophistication had all evolved considerably but Super Sport machines had also grown heavy. A dedicated team at Honda, working under Tadao Baba, knew there was another way. Reduce a motorcycle's bulk and weight and you can achieve more speed with less power. Such thinking also enables you to build a bike with the braking and cornering performance to leave rivals breathless; a machine so pure in its responses that an experience akin to riding a purpose-built race bike can be made available in a production motorcycle. The launch of the CBR900RR Fireblade changed the Super Sport world forever.

The CBR900RR remained a high performance benchmark through the 1990s and into the first years of the 21st century. This was achieved through careful evolution, the relentless development of new technologies and an unwavering dedication to the "total control" concept that had made the original CBR900RR such a landmark machine. Engine capacity rose from 893cc through 919cc and 929cc to 954cc, the corresponding escalation in power output matched all the time by advances in frame, braking and suspension technology.

MotoGP's move to include 990cc four-stroke machines from 2002 and the changes to the World Superbike Championship regulations in 2004, raising displacement to 1000cc, both shaped the evolution of the Fireblade in the 21st century. The result was an all-new machine that elevated the Super Sport experience to new levels: the CBR1000RR Fireblade.

Launched in 2004, the CBR1000RR held nothing back. It was the result of a driving concept as pure as the one behind the first Fireblade: "the crown jewel of Honda Racing DNA, the strongest RR". The all-new 998cc engine delivered searing performance from a unit so light and compact it allowed the development team to realise another key objective: mass centralisation. The bike's weight was concentrated, increasing both stability and manoeuvrability. There was more. Unit Pro-Link rear suspension delivered excellent road holding. A centre-up exhaust system, with its underseat muffler, further optimised the machine's weight distribution. Minimalist fairings reduced aerodynamic drag for no loss of high-speed stability. And the first generation Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD) married secure high speed running with light, responsive steering at low speeds.

In 2008 an all-new CBR1000RR delivered still-greater Super Sport satisfaction. More compact, more powerful and more sophisticated than its predecessor, the new machine used the same thinking on mass centralisation that had shaped the previous model to further reduce handling inertia. The result was a 1000cc bike that didn't lose out to 600cc rivals on twisting roads or tight, technical race circuits. This generation of CBR1000RR also debuted important new technology. The assisted slipper clutch enabled smooth downshifts, increasing stability and rider enjoyment, while Honda's electronically-controlled "Combined ABS" system, launched on the CBR1000RR in 2009, was the first antilock braking system developed specifically for the unique deceleration of Super Sport motorcycles.

In 2012, 20 years after the launch of the first CBR900RR Fireblade, Honda evolved the large-capacity Super Sport concept once again to create a new CBR1000RR that continues the Fireblade's proud history.

Evolution of a legend

1992-1995, CBR900RR Fireblade (893cc)
Initially developed as 750cc machine, the first CBR900RR went on to combine 893cc power with an ultra-light chassis and aggressive geometry to create a revolution, one that would establish the Fireblade legend almost overnight.

1996-1999 CBR900RR Fireblade (919cc)
A significant evolution of the original machine, the more powerful 919cc (1mm larger bore) engine worked with a more sophisticated chassis to deliver even greater performance.

2000-2001 CBR900RR Fireblade (929cc)
The first Fireblade to use PGM-FI fuel injection technology, the 929cc Fireblade also boasted a completely new chassis. This mounted the swingarm to the rear of the engine cases to realise a lighter and more compact chassis package.

2002-2003 CBR900RR Fireblade (954cc)
Lighter and more powerful than the 929cc machine, the 954cc Fireblade also featured a more rigid chassis and swingarm, higher footpegs in order to reach greater lean angles and more aerodynamic bodywork. The result was astonishing performance on both road and track.

2004-2005 CBR1000RR Fireblade (998cc)
Inspired by Honda's 990cc RC212V MotoGP machine, the CBR1000RR debuted a raft of new technologies to move the Fireblade forward. Key features included a powerful 998cc engine, the first generation HESD electronic steering damper and a Unit Pro-Link rear suspension configuration.

2006-2007 CBR1000RR Fireblade (998cc)
Lighter, more powerful and better handling than the previous model thanks to improvements such as lighter swingarm, revised suspension settings and a new exhaust system, this generation CBR1000RR perfectly illustrates the Fireblade's relentless pursuit of perfection.

2008-2011 CBR1000RR (999cc)
An-all new styling package wrapped around a lighter die-cast frame and more powerful short-stroke engine. Taking mass centralisation to the next level, the 999cc CBR1000RR used an underslung silencer in place of the previous underseat configuration and an assisted slipper clutch, to improve stability under braking and during corner entry.

2012-2013 CBR1000RR (999cc)
The 2012 model further built on the heritage of 20 years of "total control". In 2013 the model is enhanced with two new colour versions: Tricolour and Repsol.

Optional equipment

The CBR1000RR Fireblade can be personalised with a range of Honda Genuine Accessories.

Hugger
A painted hugger protects the rear shock absorber from dirt splashes and also adds a high-class, sporty look to the CBR1000RR. The single-piece unit is available in bodywork colours to create a seamless sporting entity.

Carbon-fibre accessories
A range of carbon-fibre accessories will give your CBR1000RR the ultimate sports finish and underline the machine's rich racing heritage.

The carbon-fibre hugger is based on that used on the Repsol Honda RC212V in MotoGP and features a Honda Racing logo. An optimised number of carbon layers ensures the perfect balance of weight, handling and durability.

Similarly, at the front end, a carbon-fibre mudguard also reflects the CBR's racing pedigree with a Honda Racing logo, while its soft edges and clear coating exude class.

A set of quality carbon-fibre crankcase covers protects that famous powerplant with an advanced composite cover on the left and, on the right, also protecting the clutch cover, a guard featuring the Honda Racing logo.

Seat cowl
To add a more focused sporting look to the CBR1000RR, a rear seat cowl gives a sharp and aggressive finish. It replaces the standard pillion seat pad, yet still offers the same easy access to the underseat storage area. Available in 3 different colour versions and featuring the famous Honda Racing logo, it offers the classic performance image.

High windscreen
A black-tinted high windscreen - 27mm higher than the factory standard - gives the CBR1000RR an added performance edge, while complying fully with European homologation regulations. It also integrates perfectly with the machine and, even with its side stays, does not compromise visibility, drivability or manoeuvrability.

To underline the CBR1000RR's racing heritage, a Honda Racing logo is featured on the high screen.

Other CBR1000RR accessories:

" Averto alarm
" A series of tank pad and fuel filler cover sets
" A comfort seat E-cushion
" A rear maintenance stand
" 2 indoor cycle covers and an outdoor cover
" A tank bag
" A wheel sticker set
" A Honda OptiMate 5 battery optimiser
" A fairing scuff guard set

Honda Assurance

You can be sure that, like all Honda Genuine Accessories, those for the Honda CBR1000RR fit perfectly because they have been developed alongside the model. They are all subject to Honda's rigorous testing procedures to make sure they adhere to our exacting quality standards, which is why they're offered with a two-year Honda warranty.

2013 Honda CBR1000RR Motorcycle Photos

The Essential Superbike...It’s hard to improve on a machine that’s already as good as Honda’s incredible CBR1000RR. You can build a faster bike or one with more power, but probably nothing that combines power, handling, riding quality, and overall build quality to the degree this versatile open-class sportbike does.

2013 Honda CBR1000RR Motorcycle Photos, 480x360 pixels

And that’s a huge issue. Riders everywhere are rediscovering the fact that they want a motorcycle that sets high standards, but sets them in a balanced way. CBR riders have known that for decades. And they know another secret: a better balanced bike can actually be faster than one with just a lot of power.

This year we’re again offering the CBR1000RR in two versions, one with Combined Anti-Lock Braking System (C-ABS), the first ever on a production Superbike.

2013 Honda CBR1000RR motorcycle photos 1Finding the sweet spot in Superbike design means attaining that perfect balance between power and handling-a balance point that allows the bike to function as an integrated, complete package for superior feel and performance. And that's exactly what the Honda CBR1000RR brings to the table. Credit the race-proven 999cc engine that smoothly pumps out huge midrange power and torque for class-leading real-world muscle. And the lightweight aluminum frame is equipped with a modern-design Big Piston Fork and Honda's Unit Pro-Link® rear suspension system that features a patented Balance-Free Rear Shock-all to sharpen the CBR1000RR's renowned ultra-responsive middleweight-style handling. The aggressive bodywork isn't there just for good looks; it's also been designed and tested to provide the correct aerodynamic flow that aids high-speed handling. In short, the CBR1000RR simply defines the pure essence of all that a liter-class sportbike should be.

2013 Honda CBR1000RR Features and Benefits

Honda Electronic Steering Damper

LCD Instruments

The CBR1000RR’s full-screen LCD instrumentation includes a lap timer, trip and fuel-consumption computer, five-level customizable shift indicator, gear-position indicator and peak-rpm memory function.

12-Spoke Wheels

With their consistent rigidity and balance, these sharp-looking 12-spoke cast aluminum wheels work with the BPF fork to enhance suspension feedback to deliver real handling improvements.

BPF Front Suspension

The CBR1000RR’s front suspension uses a Big Piston Fork (BPF). The 43mm Showa fork is smoother and more responsive, and gives you excellent front-end feedback.

Layered Fairing

There’s no mistaking the 2013 CBR1000RR, thanks to its Layered Fairing bodywork. Lean, mean, more aggressive from front to back, it’s a real attention getter, even when it’s standing still.

Dual-Stage Fuel Injection

Two sets of injectors per cylinder for both low- and high-rpm performance. Instantaneous high-rpm response, along with great low-rpm metering and clean running.

Assisted Slipper Clutch

Superbikes can deliver a great deal of backtorque through the driveline, upsetting handling. Not the CBR1000RR. Its Honda-designed Assisted Slipper Clutch is the same type used on our MotoGP bikes. The design does away with the need for heavy clutch springs ensuring full power transmission with smooth shifting and a light clutch pull at the lever.

Twin-Spar Aluminum Chassis

Four-piece aluminum frame design balances strength, rigidity, and lightness. Wrapped tightly around the engine, the structure helps centralize the CBR1000RR's mass for more responsive handling--some of the best anywhere on two wheels.

Unit Pro-Link® Rear Suspension

The CBR1000RR features premium suspension front and rear. In the back, the Unit Pro Link design uses a Balance Free Rear shock that uses a double-tube design for smoother and more accurate response.

Gull-Wing Swingarm

The CBR1000RR’s braced aluminum "gull wing" swingarm is deliberately long. That helps deliver improved traction and gives the rider excellent chassis feedback.

2013 Ducati Monster 696 Review

Naked essentiality

When you choose to ride the Monster, you are not just choosing a bike, but an entire lifestyle. A desire to experience the exhilaration of naked power from an iconic motorcycle.

DUCATI MONSTER 696

2013 ducati monster 696 motorcycle photos - picture 2With its thin waistline and wide handlebars, the Monster 696 provides unrivalled ergonomics, striking a carefully designed balance between performance and everyday usability that will appeal to a wide range of riders. Sport-derived chassis technology and the proven power and flexibility of the legendary Ducati L-Twin engine, make the Monster 696 as comfortable in city traffic as on the open road. Enhancing the "less-ismore" philosophy that has made the Monster a global legend, the Monster 696 continues to redefine expectations. Every finely engineered element of the chassis and engine is on display, allowing its true beauty to be showcased for all to see.

Riding the 696

The riding position of the Monster 696 has been specifically designed to put the rider firmly in control. With its low 770mm (30.3in) seat height, easy-to-reach handlebars and user-friendly 4-point adjustable levers, every rider will find it easy to master.

The beautifully sculpted fuel tank cover allows maximum comfort and control and the narrowing of the "waist" area of the 696 has the same effect as lowering the seat height, making it easier to get both feet flat on the ground. Careful attention to every detail has led to a substantial weight saving, making the Monster 696 the lightest in its class at an impressive 161kg (355lb) (dry weight).

Passenger comfort and safety arealso carefully considered, with neat, under-seat grab handles moulded into the seat unit maximising pillion security without detracting from the legendary Monster 696 styling, or external grab-handles available as an accessory from Ducati Performance.

696 power trip

The 696 engine produces 80hp (59kW) and 50.6lb-ft (7kgm) of torque ensuring a smooth and powerful delivery for a relaxed and enjoyable ride as well competitive and owner-friendly service intervals of 7,500 miles (12,000 kilometres).

2013 ducati monster 696 motorcycle photos - picture 3The highly efficient, lightweight engine uses a bore and stroke of 88x57.2mm and, like the 796, features an advanced APTC 'wet' clutch. With a 'slipper' type action that prevents destabilising of the rear-end under aggressive down-shifting, the APTC clutch also gives the extra benefit of a super-light feel at the lever, a great benefit in stop-start city traffic. The oil-bath clutch represents a power-enhancing weight reduction over the 'dry' system as well as having a considerably quieter operation.

Providing a deep and rich exhaust tone within current regulations is no mean feat, but the Monster 696 definitely provides Ducati's famous L-Twin sound. Its bold, high-level twin mufflers not only make a striking style statement, but also provide a healthy increase in power and torque and ideal positioning for two lambda exhaust gas sensors, crucial for the optimisation of fuelling and emissions.

696 chassis

Outstanding handling and control is provided by 43mm Kayaba forks offering 120mm (4.7in) of finely controlled travel. At the rear, a progressive Sachs monoshock unit provides adjustability in both spring preload and damping.

Lightweight 3-spoke aluminium alloy wheels increase agility and reduce rider effort and use 120/60ZR front and 160/60ZR rear Pirelli Angel ST tyres. The end result provides a light, predictable and confidenceinspiring "feel" with outstanding stability at a wide range of speeds.

2013 ducati monster 696 motorcycle photos - picture 4The Brembo brakes deliver exceptional braking power front and rear, enhancing rider safety. 320mm front floating discs are gripped by 4-piston, radially mounted callipers, while a 245mm rear disc works in combination with a twin-piston calliper. This powerful braking set-up offers unrivalled feel and feedback that inspires confidence across a broader spectrum of riding abilities. Riders looking for even more security will benefit from the optional ABS system.

Every carefully selected component of the Monster 696 has a net benefit to the overall weight of the machine and not only enhances manoeuvrability and ease of use, but also contributes directly to increased performance of both braking and acceleration.

DUCATI MONSTER 696+

Factory-personalised

Throughout its long and established history, the Monster's cult following has always attracted personalisation. With Ducati's tempting in-house accessory range offering so many custom-fit parts, nearly every Monster is different.

The 696+ is a factory-personalised model featuring some neat designer touches. A beautiful single seat cover creates the clean look of a racing seat and easily unclips to allow room for a passenger while the neat micro-bikini fairing adds a custom touch to the front end.

696 colours

The 2013 Monster 696 is available in red with red Trellis frame and black wheels or two choices of dark stealth or stone white, both with matte black frames and black wheels. The Monster 696 can be further personalised from a wide range of additional colour schemes available within the innovative Monster Art program.

The essence of naked

The Monster has revolutionized the world of motorcycling, becoming more than just a simple motorcycle: it's a way of life, it's what makes its riders feel unique. Its customised versions owned by 250,000 enthusiasts have made it a true and proper icon that transcends time. Twenty years after its birth, Ducati celebrates this symbol of style and personality, presenting a unique model: the very first one. An unmistakable style coupled with latest-generation performance: here's the Monster 20th Anniversary, the motorcycle that continues to write history.

2013 Ducati Monster 696 Key Features

Concept

Less is Monster

The 'less-is-more' philosophy behind all Monsters underlines Ducati's never-ending pursuit of genuinely compact, high performance motorcycles, but these new models have succeeded in being even more 'pared down' than their predecessors. Every single component has been redesigned and redeveloped so now more than ever, form follows function. With any details detracting from the Monster concept being eliminated, 'less-is-more' also means 'less-is-Monster'. Less weight plus more torque equals fun-filled riding.

Monster Story

In 1992 Ducati unveiled a new prototype that was to become an icon. Ducati's creation awed the crowds and the world's media of that year's Cologne International Motorcycle show. The 900 Monster was a motorcycle that created a truly new niche - dramatically styled, minimalist in stature yet bristling with innovative engineering solutions. The Monster's radical styling has also provided the inspiration for an entire after-market sector specialising in hot-rod parts for this legendary machine. For this reason, rarely do you see two Monsters the same. This radical and refreshing design departure also influenced other manufacturers but, as the old adage states: imitation is the highest form of flattery... The Monster is characterised by a long and successful history, by its introduction during the years of numerous cylinders and uncountable colour options, but above all by a constant technological evolution that this year brings us to the birth of the last version: the Monster 1100EVO, "The Ultimate Monster".

Engine

APTC clutch

The APTC ‘wet’ clutch gives a ‘slipper’ type action that prevents destabilizing of the rear-end under aggressive down-shifting and also gives the extra benefit of a super-light feel at the lever, a great benefit in stop-start city traffic or during longer journeys. The 21-plate oil-bath clutch (11 friction and 10 steel) represents a power-enhancing weight reduction over the ‘dry’ system as well as having a quieter operation and requiring less maintenance.

Lightweight crankcases

The new crankcases hug the gearbox internals much closer to create a smaller and more compact outer profile and achieve considerable weight savings over previous cases.

Exhaust system

The 2-1-2 catalytic exhaust system uses an efficient pre-silencer configuration with twin lambda probes providing finer fuel mapping and Euro 3 conformity. The system’s lightweight and compact design is achieved by using 1mm thick tubing and terminates in Ducati’s trademark twin under-seat, black exhaust mufflers, stylishly contrasted with great looking aluminium end caps.

Desmodue

The engine of the Monster 696 is the legendary Desmodue, 696cc, air cooled, L-Twin engine whose 80hp gives it that unmistakable Ducati sound. Developed for an incredibly flexible power delivery, the 696 Desmodromic engine provides enough torque to exit the most challenging of corners. The impressive torque, typical of the Ducati L-Twin engines, will excite with every twist of the throttle.

Power & torque curves

The Monster 696 produces 80hp (58,8kW) @ 9000rpm and 50,6 lb-ft (7,0kgm) of torque @ 7750rpm

Chassis

Monster Trellis

An immensely strong but light tubular steel Trellis frame with aluminium rear sub-frame is the visual and structural backbone of the Monster. Delivering unparalleled rigidity with minimal mass, the chassis design is pure Ducati in its ingenuity and simplicity. A separate, all aluminium sub-frame saves weight and adds a pleasing continuity with the aluminium footrest hangers and matte finished swingarm.

Sachs rear suspension

At the rear, a Sachs monoshock unit with progressive linkage provide a wide spectrum of both spring and damping settings.

Lightweight 3-spoke wheels

Lightweight 3-spoke aluminium alloy wheels increase agility and reduce rider effort. The 3.50x17 front wheel wears a 120/60ZR tyre while the 4.50x17 rear wheel runs 160/60ZR rubber. By resisting the temptation to over-tyre the 696 for styling’s sake, the end result is light, predictable and confidence inspiring steering qualities at a wide range of speeds with truly outstanding stability.

Aluminium swingarm

The GP-style swingarm is chill-cast using aluminium in its most noble form. Gravity cast and heat treated, the component achieves the best mechanical characteristics as well as reduced final weight for improved handling.

Seat height

The riding position of the Monster 696 has been specifically designed to put you firmly in control. The seat height is only 770mm (30.3in), making it easier for get both feet firmly planted on the ground.

Marzocchi forks

Outstanding grip and unbeatable riding comfort are ensured by a 43 mm Marzocchi upside down stanchion fork, which provides 120 mm of suspension travel.

Lightweight construction

Every carefully selected component of the Monster 696 has a net benefit to the overall light weight of the machine. The dry weight of 161kgs (355lb) has dramatic effects on not just manoeuvrability and ease of use, but also by contributing directly to increased performance, braking and acceleration.

Ergonomics

The heavily tapered and deeply sculpted fuel tank cover allows maximum comfort and control. The narrowing of the bike's ‘waist’ has the same effect as lowering the seat height, making it easier for more riders to get both feet flat on the floor. The steering-lock is vastly improved with a useful 64 degrees of lock-to-lock steering travel. Incredible attention to detail has gone into maximising the effective steering-lock.

Brembo brakes

The latest in Brembo braking hardware delivers exceptional braking power front and rear to improve rider safety. At the front, 320mm floating discs are gripped by four-piston, radially mounted callipers, while a 245mm floating rear disc works in combination with a twin-piston calliper. This powerful braking set-up offers unrivalled feel and feedback making the 696 safer across a broader spectrum of riding abilities.

Equipment

Stopwatch

The digital display is programmed with a stopwatch function that, when enabled, can be triggered by using the high-beam flash button and each recorded time stored in a memory. After your journey or track session, the times or lap times can be recalled from the memory and scrolled through by using the instrumentation buttons on the left-hand switchgear.

LED taillight

An LED rear light unit satisfies the minimalist, weight-saving design ethos found throughout the Monster 696. The specially designed strip of LED are enhanced by a special diffuser lens to deliver outstanding light clarity and incredible longevity.
For the Monster 1100EVO, even the license plate light uses LED technology.

Headlight

The triple-parabola headlight on the Monster utilises the latest optical technology and advanced construction techniques to provide an incredibly compact lighting package. In spite of its compact size, the headlight throws a broad and deep beam to provide excellent visibility and make night riding safer. Viewed from the side, its discrete silhouette mimics the radical shape of the fuel tank.

DDA ready

The instrument display also doubles as a control panel for the activation of the Ducati Data Analyser (DDA) system, which is available as an accessory from Ducati Performance. The bike has been built ‘system-ready’ for the data acquisition kit, which consists of special DDA software and a memory key that slots into a plug under the seat. The same plug also doubles as the connection for a handy new battery charger available as an accessory from Ducati Performance.

Silencer covers

The new silencer guards feature a longer shape and provide improved heat protection

Instrumentation

Visually simple digital instrumentation provides an array of data on command or, at a glance, just speed and revs. Information available at your fingertip include: scheduled maintenance warning, oil temperature, trip odometer, lap time, fuel reserve, warning light for low oil pressure, turn signals, over-rev warning, immobilizer and neutral warning light.

Adjustable levers

The new user-friendly brake and clutch with 4-point adjustable levers provide easy-to-reach control for all hand sizes.

M696 ABS

For the first time since its debut, the Ducati Monster is available with ABS (anti-lock braking system). Unlike the majority of motorcycle ABS set-ups, this system has the advantage of ensuring a more natural braking ‘feel’ for the rider. The Monster 696 ABS is equipped with ABS, the single seat cover and the neat micro-bikini fairing.

M696+

The 696+ is a factory-personalised model featuring some neat designer touches to help you stand out from the crowd. A beautiful single seat cover creates the clean look of a racing seat. The cover easily unclips to allow room for your favourite passenger while the neat micro-bikini fairing adds a custom touch to the front end.

2013 Ducati Monster 696 Features and Benefits

MONSTER FAMILY FEATURES

Monster frame

An immensely strong but light tubular steel Trellis frame with aluminium rear sub-frame is the visual and structural backbone of all Monsters. Delivering unparalleled rigidity with minimal mass, the frame design is pure Ducati in its ingenuity and simplicity and enables a useful 64 degrees of lock-to-lock steering travel.

The lightweight aluminium sub-frame maintains visual continuity with the footrest hangers and swingarm, and is designed to accept a passenger-friendly grab-rail kit available as an accessory from Ducati Performance. The kit further enhances passenger ride comfort without compromising the Monster's stylish lines.

Monster ABS

The 2013 Monster family offers all 696 and 796 models with optional anti-lock braking system (ABS), while the 1100EVO and Monster Diesel has ABS fitted as standard equipment.

Designed to reduce the risk of wheel-lock under heavy braking or when braking in low grip conditions, the system reads wheel speed data from phonic wheel sensors to detect potential wheel lock. If the wheel speed differential falls below a specific safety limit, the control unit immediately reduces the brake system pressure to the appropriate calliper to avoid wheel lock. The pressure reduction on each individual braking circuit is activated by electronically controlled valves, which then close as the wheel speed differential moves away from a locking scenario.

Monster instrumentation

Looking clean and minimalist in true Monster style, the brightly illuminated display provides all essential data by default, and even more by scrolling with the left-hand switchgear. Data includes speed, revs, time, scheduled maintenance, oil temperature, ABS status (when applicable), DTC status (1100EVO and Monster Diesel only) and battery voltage, while warning lights illuminate for oil pressure, fuel reserve, turn indicators, high beam and neutral selection. In addition, the instruments present a reserve fuel trip, immobiliser status and automatic light-off function after 60 seconds with the key on as well as a memory to store lap times recorded by using the high-beam flash button as a stopwatch.

For the Monster 1100EVO and Monster Diesel, the display also doubles as a control panel for the 4-level Ducati Traction Control system included in the Ducati Safety Package (DSP), in addition to the Ducati Data Analyser (DDA) system, which is available as an accessory from Ducati Performance. All Monsters are built "system-ready" for the data acquisition kit, which consists of a special DDA software and memory key that slots into USB style plug under the seat. The same plug also doubles as the connection for a handy "battery maintainer" available as an accessory from Ducati Performance.

Monster Desmo

The incredible valve performances of the Desmodue engine are made possible because of Ducati's unique Desmodromic system, where valve closure is activated mechanically. At high rpm it would be almost impossible for the valves to follow the steep closure profiles of the cam lobes if they were relying upon normal valve springs. With the Desmo system, the valves are closed mechanically with the same accuracy as they are opened, enabling steep cam profiles and radical cam timings. This system is used on every single Ducati power unit including the race-winning Superbike and Desmosedici GP engines.

Monster quality

Having more experience with twin-cylinder high performance engines than any other manufacturer, the aircooled L-Twin remains central to Ducati's philosophy of motorcycling. This experience, plus constant investment in quality by design, advanced materials and engineering techniques has enabled a distance between service intervals of 7,500 miles (12,000km) making Ducati ownership even more enjoyable.

Monster Art - 'Logomania'

Every model in the Monster family can be personalised using 'Logomania', the second collection of the innovative Monster Art project and a stunning tribute to famous Ducati logos and colour schemes that span more than 50 years of authentic brand heritage.

Changing the colour and character of any model in the current Monster line-up in just 15 minutes is the genius of the Monster Art program, and a feature that passionately supports the Monster culture of customisation. Consisting of tank panels, micro-bikini fairing, single-seat cover and front mudguard, the kits have now become a modern canvas in the world of motorcycle art and a unique method of Monster personalisation.

First introduced in 2009, the Monster Art project offered a range of colours over the 3 standard factory options with a collection called 'Colour Therapy'. The latest chronologically organised collection, 'Logomania' introduces schemes that effectively enable a 50 year style shift in just 15 minutes.

Ducati Sport 100

Built in the race-driven mid-1950s, the Ducati Sport 100 used engineering solutions that had taken Ducati to victory in the Motogiro D'Italia. The Monster Art scheme of the same name, in blue and silver and proudly presenting the Ducati Meccanica tank logo, stands as a tribute to Fabio Taglioni's Ducati Sport 100.

Ducati Mach 1

The 1960s saw Ducati's single-cylinder engines continue to develop even more sports oriented specifications, and it all started with the Ducati 250 Mach 1. Some 50 years later, the style is captured in this distinctive scheme of red and white and, again, carrying the historic Ducati Meccanica tank logo.

Imola 72

This scheme celebrates the historic Imola 200 race in 1972, when Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari proved Ducati's L-Twin engine with a victorious 1-2 finish. In replica metaflake silver with the classic 70s Ducati logo, the tank also sports a fibreglass colour strip that mimics the simple fuel level indicator typical of that era.

IOM78

Multiple World Champion, Mike Hailwood®, came out of retirement in 1978 to race in the Isle of man TT aboard a Ducati 900 SS. His historic victory there and the subsequent production of the Mike Hailwood Replica Ducati in 1979 is relived in this memorable colour scheme of red, white and green complete with period Ducati tank logo.

Pantah

The Pantah took Ducati into the 1980s in its own particular style, sporting a Trellis frame and the first Ducati engine to use belt-driven camshafts. Recreating the typical Pantah graphics of that era, this Monster Art scheme presents a grey finish with bold angled flashes of red and blue across the tank.

Darmah

The Ducati Darmah of the 70s and 80s was a naked model that used basic colours and stripes that captured the very essence of that era. The black and gold used to great effect during those years has been combined with the period Ducati logo and remembered in 'Logomania'.

Ducati Corse

2010 was the first year of competition with the new Ducati Corse logo and the official Ducati Corse colours
are celebrated with their own 'Logomania' scheme within the Monster Art collection.
