2012 Husqvarna TC250 Review

The return of Husqvarna to the MX World Championship has already produced its first results. The experience gained at the World MX2 Championship has now been incorporated into the new Husqvarna 2012 model TC250. The collaboration between the factory R&D technicians and the Ricci Racing team led to the development of important updates, which bring the TC250 to the top of its category. Both to the engine a real jewel at only 22 kg! - and the mechanical design, and all modifications which will be immediately appreciated by riders of every level and experience. Just try it.

The 2012 Husqvarna TC250 was completely revamped to exploit the experience gained during the European MX2 motocross championship by the Official Team. The bike has been radically redesigned, both as regards the engine and mechanical aspects. The engine has electronic fuel injection, with a Mikuni THB 45mm diameter batteryless throttle body.

2012 Husqvarna TC250 Motorcycle Photos 3To boost power at low and medium revs the air intake and exhaust systems have been redesigned and a nylon air intake has been introduced to the line between the filter housing and throttle body. The engine crank-casings have been modified and strengthened in the area near the attachment to the frame and the engine is protected by a new, more shock resistant, material.

Another highly valuable innovation in a mass produced motocross bike is the use of an Akrapovic exhaust specially designed for the new TC250, with titanium muffler.

Mechanically, the chassis has been completely redesigned and reinforced, strengthening the area near the footrests, making it more tapered and streamlined.

The suspension is Kayaba, with a sealed front fork and Sachs damper. Wheels and brakes: the hubs are completely new – polished and lighter, the disc brakes are daisy wheel. The bike remains the category benchmark in terms of kerb weight: only 97 Kg.

There have been structural changes to the tank, which now houses a new petrol pump enabling 100% exploitation of petrol available. The in-mould graphics on the sides reflect the new Husqvarna aesthetic.

Mechanically, the chassis has been completely redesigned and reinforced, strengthening the area near the footrests, making it more tapered and streamlined. The suspension is Kayaba, with a sealed front fork and Sachs damper. Wheels and brakes: the hubs are completely new ? polished and lighter, the disc brakes are daisy wheel. The TC250 remains the category benchmark in terms of kerb weight: only 97 Kg.

More rigid frame, Kayaba shock
The steel frame is made of tubing with a variety of cross sections, strengthened and made more rigid with new plates (chrome-moly 25CrMo4 steel) at the steering-head. Stability and manoeuvrability are noticeably improved by the new monoshock, now a Kayaba, with externally adjustable damping (high/low speed compression and rebound). The fork is also Kayaba (leg diameter 48 mm) and the preload has been changed to a firmer setting. The new 2012 version of the TC250 has also had an aesthetic makeover, the frame is now black, InMould graphics (integrated into the plastic and absolutely resistant to washing), and anodised silver rims.

The Husqvarna 250 cc four-stroke engine is a very modern design, and remains the most compact and lightest in its category. But when you want to provide the best, you can never rest on your laurels. So our engineers radically redesigned the layout and changed numerous suppliers. The improved performance of the new TC250 engine is the fruit of these radical changes. First of all the twin cam valve train was completely redesigned! With a totally new design, four titanium valves and a different piston, the increase in power and torque is considerable: more horsepower reaches the wheels.

The injection has also been completely changed (now Keihin, with 46 mm throttle body), the electronic ignition is Kokusan, and the exhaust is new too. It comes fitted with ?Power Bomb? on the manifold and silencer from the specialists, Akrapovic.
