2012 Husqvarna TC499

Husqvarna TC449: a different style

The new TC449 explores beyond the horizon, perfecting the concepts introduced last year: tank below the seat to improve the centre of gravity, airbox high in the frame to take in fresh and clean air, and above all, the swing arm pivot coaxial with the gear box output shaft, reducing almost to zero the effects of chain drag.

2012 Husqvarna TC499 Review

The performance revolution. Nothing will ever be the same again at Motocross tracks. Revolutionary design, top performance and CTS system. The courage to face your limits is inside you.

After receiving a serious shot in the arm in the power department, the 2012 TC449 is ready to flex some muscle on the track! Husqvarna’s premier class motocross/GP-racer gets a substantial overhaul in the motor and chassis departments aimed at taking it to the next level of competition.

2012 Husqvarna TC499 Motorcycle Photos 3A NEW BREED
Husqvarna has always strived to innovate and bring new ideas to the world of off road motorcycles. Now, as always, the motorcycle brand with the longest tradition in the world in the Off Road sector is fully committed to the ongoing research and development of the perfect off road bike: easy to use, ready to race and easy to maintain.

The design of the new 449/511 range outstrips that of other off road models and stands out immediately for its looks, exclusive layout and cutting-edge technology.

TE449/TE511

DESIGN AND LAYOUT
The line is completely new: slim, svelte and refined. The single piece side panel runs from where traditionally the fuel tank would be, all the way back to the rear mudguard, allowing the rider free and unhindered movement. There is no chance of snagging boots or jeans on the edges of the panels with this design.

Besides the aesthetic and ergonomic aspects, the new design also makes maintenance easier as the air filter, rear shock and throttle body can all be accessed with ease. The long seat, which runs from the rear mudguard to the steering head, offers completely free longitudinal movement.

Aesthetics, technology and serviceability too: the graphics on the side panels are applied using the ‘In Mould Design’ technology for increased resistance to wear and the 2 litre fuel pump housing is transparent so that the remaining fuel level can be easily monitored.

2012 Husqvarna TC499 Motorcycle Photos 4MASSES AND CENTER OF GRAVITY
The idea behind the TE 449/511 range is ‘mass centralisation’ – to keep the weight of the bike concentrated as close as possible to the centre of gravity and to design a chassis which adapts perfectly to the demands of competitive Enduro racing. The crux of this concept is the union of the rear wheel swing arm pivot point and the gearbox output shaft sprocket. This solution, which Husqvarna calls CTS (Coaxial Traction System), eliminates the variation in the length of the chain during rear suspension movement, minimising the effect of the final drive on the bikes handling.

This solution allows a longer swing arm whilst still retaining a wheelbase similar to our competitors, ensuing greater traction, which for Enduro means tangible advantages.

The chassis layout allows the modern DOHC engine to be mounted closer to the centre of the bike, whilst tilting the cylinder further forward allows a long and straight air intake path at the same time as keeping the centre of gravity as low as possible. This has also meant that the throttle body and fuel injector nozzle can be mounted in the ideal position.

Again, continuing the theme of mass centralisation, the two part fuel tank design provides a total of 8.5 litres capacity in a low mounted 2 litre pump housing and a 6,5 litre under seat main tank.

The under seat fuel tank layout permits the airbox to be located in a protected and fluidodynamically favourable position above the engine with the actual air intake being at the height of the steering column, in a raised and sheltered position to minimise the intake of dust or water.

The air filter box has an elongated intake manifold and a newly designed air intake to provide greater breathability for the sponge filter, which is easily removed thanks to a hinge system in the airbox.

The battery is located adjacent to the under seat main fuel tank to again centralise the mass.

REFERENCE PERFORMANCES
The TE 449/511 bikes are equipped with a cutting-edge 4 valve dual camshaft engine which has been significantly improved thanks to the experience gained by Husqvarna in its many years of offroad racing.

Fuel delivery is managed by an electronic injection system with a Keihin 46 mm diameter, double flap throttle body which provides progressive and predictable throttle response. All components are top of the range - the bike even comes with two exhaust silencers: the Euro 3 compliant silencer fitted as standard and a steel Akrapovic Racing exhaust, developed in collaboration with the Slovenian company to maximise the potential of the engine, whilst minimising the weight.

The gear ratios for both the Enduro and MX versions have been completely changed: the Enduro now uses a 6 speed transmission and the ratios have been modified on the basis of the experience gained during Salminen and Tarkkala's races. The ignition timing has been optimised with maps specific to the two different capacities and exhaust systems.

The TE 511 version has been achieved by increasing the cylinder bore from 98 mm to 101 mm, with the stroke remaining at 59.6 mm. The effective displacement has therefore been increased to 478cc.

The clutch is controlled hydraulically, offering a smoother and more progressive action with greater consistency also under stress.
The motorcycle has a high energy electronic ignition and, thanks to the powerful battery and fuel injection system, a supplementary kick start is not necessary.

2012 Husqvarna TC499 Motorcycle Photos 1HANDLING AND PERFORMANCE
Naturally, Husqvarna's long experience in Enduro racing has played an important part in the development of these new motorcycles. The challenges posed by the conception of geometry and by the general concept of the motorcycle itself were linked to the tough demands of riding in the most severe and extreme conditions. The result is a surprisingly effortless and smooth ride along with agility and outstanding steering stability.

The perimeter design chassis is made of high strength steel tubing. The geometry of the rear suspension is revolutionary, with a new linkage mounted on top of the alloy swing arm.

This solution offers many advantages: it increases the ground clearance, improves general reliability thanks to the reduced exposure of the components and makes maintenance easier.

But there's more: dynamically, by exploiting the advantages of the double cradle frame made in high strength steel tubing, the roughness of the ground is absorbed more gradually, attenuating the stresses on the rider.

The advantages when jumping are also remarkable with the recoil effect of the rear wheel being significantly reduced and the smoothness of the suspension is particularly perceivable on rougher and more difficult ground.

COAXIAL TRACTION SYSTEM
A real refinement in the field of chassis design and exclusive to the TE/TC 449/511 range is the CTS, the Coaxial Traction System. This system represents an evolution compared to the one adopted on the BMW G 450X. The solution, which originally used a single swing arm pivot spindle, now has two independent semi spindles which reduce the stress on the swing arm and facilitate the replacement of the gearbox sprocket.

The advantages of the CTS system compared to the traditional systems are huge. During the suspension movement along the whole stroke, the chain is not subject to any change in length.

The tension of the chain remains constant regardless of the swing arm position, while the chain and sprockets benefit from reduced wear. An important positive effect on the riding characteristics is the marked reduction of the impact of alternating the load on the transmission.

This aspect has been studied by a spin-off company of the University of Padova called Dynamotion which has proved that the CTS improves traction in the various stages of acceleration and consequently during also the vertical movements of the suspension on rough terrain.

The result is better traction during acceleration and surer, more confident gear changes. More in general, the values obtained by adopting the CTS have a much more uniform trend in all conditions, leading to improved ridability and stability of the motorcycle.

TOP OF THE RANGE COMPONENTS
The new TEs are equipped with the most advanced components in the Off Road sector. For the front brake, there is a Brembo system with floating caliper and 260 mm wave rotor, while the rear brake consists of a floating calliper operating on a 240 mm rotor.
The suspension is entrusted in full to the specialists of Kayaba, with 48 mm forks, adjustable for compression and rebound damping and a Kayaba rear shock absorber designed specifically for Enduro use with settings optimised in collaboration with the racing team.
The tapered diameter handlebars, original equipment hand protectors, compact and efficient instrumentation, shockproof plastic engine / chassis guards, rear mudguard with incorporated racing number plate holder and led rear light complete the fittings.

TE449/511 are also the sole standard enduro bike on the market equipped with full Akrapovic exhaust system.

A range of Husqvarna Special Parts will be available, developed by Husqvarna to provide the best combination of lightness, durability and performance to allow Husqvarna fans to personalise their bikes and offer them the ingredients for racing success.

TC 449
The motorcross version stands out not only for the normal MX chassis changes (no lights, 19" rear wheel etc) but above all for the engine which has been specifically tuned for MX use, delivering significantly more power than the Enduro version.

The timing and camshaft profiles are completely different as is the compression ratio which has increased to 13:1 instead of 12:1 in the Enduro version. The electronic injection system still uses a 46mm Keihin throttle body but is fitted with a single flap instead of the Enduro twin flap version to provide a sharper, more aggressive throttle response. Additionally, the TC449 is fitted with a dual mode switch on the handlebars, which allows access to two different fuel injection / ignition timing maps to provide a softer power delivery for low traction conditions.

The titanium exhaust system with carbon fibre tipped silencer has been developed specifically by Akrapovic and the five speed transmission has specific ratios for use in MX. The suspension is provided by Kayaba with multi adjustable sealed cartridge front forks matched to a Kayaba fully adjustable rear shock.

Frame
The idea behind the TC449 is ?mass centralisation? ? to keep the weight of the bike concentrated as close as possible to the centre of gravity and to design a chassis which adapts perfectly to the demands of competitive racing. This solution, which Husqvarna calls CTS (Coaxial Traction System), eliminates the variation in the length of the chain during rear suspension movement, minimising the effect of the final drive on the bikes handling.

More in general, the values obtained by adopting the CTS have a much more uniform trend in all conditions, leading to improved ridability and stability of the motorcycle.

Extreme innovation
Massive horsepower needs careful handling. Best to let off steam on the track. Traction and manoeuvrability: these are the objectives of the TC449 and its revolutionary mechanical design. The tank has moved below the seat with the fuel cap to the rear and the air filter box is located directly behind the headstock, making the bike more balanced and a different shape, definitely more user friendly. The bodywork has integrated graphics (InMould technology) enhancing design and function, finally resolving the problem of adhesives that peel off under the power wash. Moreover, the graphic design on the new TC449 has been completely revised, and the aesthetic makeover extends to the frame, which is now black and the rims, now anodized silver.

The frame has also been changed at the steering-head area, reinforced with chrome-moly 25CrMo4 steel plates. The rear seat rail and engine supports have also been similarly strengthened. Given the improved rigidity of the frame, the preload of the Kayaba suspension was reset: the fork has a harder setting and the monoshock damps more slowly. It is softer at the start of the stroke, and has a new progressive spring.

To lighten and simplify the electrical system, the 2012 Husqvarna TC449 has had the entire wiring completely redesigned.

Engine: ignition to the future.
The ultra-modern twin cam four valve engine is fed by a Keihin electronic injection (46 mm throttle body), but that is not what is so special about it. The air intake path is much more linear than other bikes in the category, and allows impressive performance to be achieved easily. The dry sump crank-case utilises two lubrication pumps, intake and outlet; the sophistication of the engine can also be seen in the choice of bore/stroke ratio: 98 X 59.6 mm. It was decided to equip the TC449 with electric start, because anyone, even a champion, can lose precious seconds kick starting after a simple slide. Evolution never looks back, and even the modern mechanical design has been improved on the new 2012 TC449.

The radiators have been upgraded to improve the cooling efficiency, and the filter box breathes better thanks to a higher volume air intake. Engine performance has been raised by adjusting the valve timing and revising the two mappings for ignition/injection (now also selectable with the engine running). Mid range torque has been improved with a new intake manifold.

These changes do not affect the bike's reliability. On the contrary, the 2012 version engine undoubtedly has a more durable crankshaft, with galvanizing and high-resistance DLC treatments of the piston rod and rod bearing.

2012 Aprilia Shiver 750 Model Highlights

2012 Aprilia Shiver 750 Motorcycle Photos 3The main characteristics of the Aprilia Shiver 750 are:

- V2 90° engine with four valves per cylinder, double overhead camshaft and liquid cooling;
- the integral Ride-by-Wire tri-map technology developed for competitions;
- modular trellis/aluminium frame with significant torsional rigidity;
- aluminium swingarm with stiffener brace and lateral shock absorber;
- 43 mm upside down fork;
- racing brakes with radial callipers and 320mm Wave discs
- Sport rider/passenger footpegs
- Rear wheel with 5.5 mm channel

Design

Shiver aims in no uncertain terms towards sportiness. The colouring with a new graphic (Bianco Glam and Nero Aprilia), the "wavy" discs and the sporty rider footpegs are just a few of the signals which Shiver gives off to the beholder. The line remains very streamline and Italian and thanks to the clever use of the new colours and graphics, Shiver moves up a few notches as far as balance and aggression are concerned, highlighting some techniques that really make a difference, such as, for instance, the side shock absorber or the mixed steel trellis frame and aluminium plates.

The engine

The V90 engine is the result of the extensive experience Aprilia has in high performance mechanics. Thanks to its peculiar technical features the Aprilia twin-cylinder is able to combine an exceptionally high level of output with maximum exploitation rates and user-friendly riding options. The research conducted to reach top performance levels in its category has led to the decision to adopt some advanced cutting-edge technical solutions. Generous torque is always available throughout the entire range of rpms, minimal vibrations, full output and power at the top of its category... all characteristics of the Aprilia V2 750.

2012 Aprilia Shiver 750 Motorcycle Photos 4Shiver naturally confirms the integrated multi-map Ride by Wire technology which evolves further, also taking advantage of the racing experience gained from the RSV4 superbike. This technical solution obviously represents the state-of-the-art version of engine control systems and Aprilia Shiver confirms its technological leadership position in its sector.

With the simple touch of the starter control the rider can select, even while moving but with closed throttle, one of the three maps, and radically change the motorcycle's character:

- "Sport" to have the "throttle in hand" when a rider needs to let off steam exploiting the entire character of this Italian twin cylinder bike;

- "Touring" when smoother power delivery and fluidity are essential during the moments when the racing desires are set aside to enjoy a more relaxing ride, even two-up;

- "Rain" when grip is not as good as it should be and maximum safety is the main objective.

Thanks to the technical solutions installed on this bike the V90 Aprilia is able to achieve outstanding output values. Maximum power of 95 HP at 9,000 rpm and maximum torque of 81 Nm at 7,000 rpm is top of the line performance. The amazing torque available even at bottom end means that nothing can beat Shiver on mixed tracks.

Frame

2012 Aprilia Shiver 750 Motorcycle Photos 2You don't change a winning team, so for this Aprilia Shiver the chassis choices are confirmed from the previous version, starting from the composite trellis frame and aluminium plates. The engine is exceptionally compact length-wise making it possible to obtain a highly agile bike, which is also helped by the particular choice to install the shock absorber on the side: this is not simply an aesthetic choice but a precise technical decision as it frees some extra space for the exhaust which can then benefit from optimal volumes.

The aluminium swingarm with the stiffener brace is dimensioned to withstand the asymmetrical stress caused by the lateral position of the shock absorber. The swingarm has benchmark rigidity levels in this category.

Suspensions

Upside-down fork with 43-mm stanchions and shell cast calliper mounts offering benchmark smoothness. Its 120-mm travel allows the rider to easily cope with city roads and mountain paths.

The lateral shock absorber is fitted directly to the swingarm using a cantilever set-up and the spring preload and hydraulic rebound are adjustable; the rear wheel travel is 130 mm.

Dynamic qualities also enhanced by the choice of the 5.5 x 17 rear wheel, which maximises its handiness and rapidity in direction changes.

Brakes

Along with its radial callipers, a solution that it pioneered for the sector, Shiver now adds wavy brake discs which ensure, besides a different aesthetic impact, a braking grip which is more decisive and can be modulated.

The rear brake features a 245mm disc with single piston calliper to provide adequate support to the front system.

Both the front and rear systems have metal braided braking pipes, derived from the aeronautic sector, which eliminate the annoying buffering effect of conventional pipes and guarantee maximum braking accuracy and top-class system.

It also comes in an ABS version, and adopts a 2-channel Continental system which is able to guarantee maximum levels of safety when braking in all conditions.

The TE 125 and SMS 4 are the new four stroke 125 cc models from Husqvarna, aimed at young fans of the brand:

The TE 125 for newcomers to enduro, SMS 4 for a touch of supermotard and speed in urban traffic.

Both inherit a look that is particularly aggressive and appealing, reflecting the style of the bikes used in races by the official Husqvarna team.

The chassis of the two new 4-stroke, 125cc models is a monobeam in Cr-Mo steel with a circular cross section and rear seat rail, also in steel.

The engine is single-cylinder, single camshaft, four stroke, rated 124.45 cc, 4 valves, 6 gears, liquid-cooled and with electric ignition.

The colours available are racing red for the TE and white for the SMS4. All graphics are incorporated into the bodywork using the innovative in-mould plastic decoration system.

The new 4T models have a greatly reduced weight, only 117 Kg, making them particularly manageable and easy to handle in every situation.

With a maximum power of 11KW (15 HP), these new Husqvarna 125 cc models can be driven by holders of a "B" driving licence.

2012 Husqvarna TE125 Features and Benefits

2012 Husqvarna TE125 Motorcycle Photos #2THE ENGINE
The single overhead camshaft (SOHC) 4-stroke, liquid-cooled 124.45 cc engine is the same for both versions, TE and SMS4. Cylinder bore and stroke length are 52 mm and 58.6 mm, with a compression ratio of 11.2:1.

Both versions have 6 gears, but with different final speed ratios for the two models, to optimize performance in all conditions - urban traffic or dirt track.

The 125 cc engine ensures reduced emissions and consumption and is rated EU3. It has a Keihin 29 mm carburettor and electric ignition.
The lubrication is wet sump with claw pump and cartridge filter.
To ensure optimum response and power adequate to requirements, the exhaust system has been specially designed for the two different versions.

Chassis
The front suspension forks have a diameter of 40 mm and 260 mm of effective stroke. The rear suspension has a single shock absorber, with adjustable spring preload. Safety: the front brakes are floating calliper double piston with a disc diameter of 260 mm, the rear brakes are also floating calliper, with disc diameter 220 mm.

Frame
The frame of the new 4-stroke, 125cc model is a monobeam in Cr-Mo steel with a circular cross section and rear seat rail, also in steel. The new 4 stroke model has greatly reduced weight, only 117 Kg, making them particularly manageable and easy to handle in every situation.

Wheels
The enduro has a 21" front wheel and 18" rear, just like the racing Husqvarnas.

Mechanical Features
Both of the new Husqvarna 4T models are obviously "miniature" big bikes. The attention to detail and excellent quality of construction in all mechanical parts ensure that these two "new entries" to the highly competitive 125 cc market are close in design and aesthetics to the bigger bikes made by the original Swedish manufacturer with over 100 years of experience.

In fact, with their chassis size and design values, the TE 125 and SMS4 could easily pass for bikes driven by Antoine Meo and Adrien Chareyre.

Just like the Husqvarna professional racing bikes, the tank and seat have been designed for maximum mobility and comfort: the driver can rapidly move forwards or backwards to cope with different road conditions or driving techniques.

The position of the handlebars and the distance between seat and footrests have also been designed to ensure driver comfort and improve overall handling of the bike.

The wheels are made of light alloy, with 17 inch hubs in the motard version, allowing use of a 140mm rear tyre which is perfectly adapted to the chassis and gives the SMS4 the look of a big motorbike, with great performance on bends.

The enduro has a 21" front wheel and 18" rear, just like the racing Husqvarnas.

The elegant instrument panel completes the series design of the new Husqvarna four stroke models. The lcd display, in addition to the speedometer, can show revolution counter, indicators, lights, odometer (total and partial), driving time and clock.

2012 Aprilia Dorosoduro 1200 Review

Dorsoduro 1200 is the benchmark in the maxi motard class. An all-new record breaking twin cylinder powerplant producing an astonishing 130 hp in an incredible light and nimble chassis. With its sleek forms, broad handlebars, superb attention to detail and premium componentry, this motorcycle represents the zenith of the twin-cylinder maximotard class. Dorsoduro 1200 is an explosive cocktail of horsepower, agility and precision that takes the concept of fun riding introduced by the Dorsoduro 750 to the next level.

The heart of the Dorsoduro 1200 is the Aprilia V2 1200cc 90° V-twin engine, which boasts the most advanced technology in the segment. Superlative mechanicals and perfection in terms of chassis design are the hallmarks of all Aprilia machines, and the same is naturally true of the Dorsoduro 1200 which, in addition, also boasts extremely sporty and sophisticated looks, outstanding new levels of finish and trim, and levels of agility and smoothness never experienced before on a twin this size.

2012 Aprilia Dorosoduro 1200 Motorcycle Photos 3With its essential lines oozing pure personality, the unmistakable design of the Dorsoduro 1200 makes it stand out in any crowd. The finish and trim set new standards for exclusiveness, with details such as the painted tail fairing, the two-tone frame and the dual exhaust with black heat shields.
The wind deflector and hand guards offer enhanced wind protection on a bike that is not just nimble in the bends, but is also capable of significant speed.

Naturally, the Dorsoduro 1200 boasts class-beating technical solutions, too. Radial Brembo callipers, hydraulic clutch, Ride by Wire with 3 different engine maps and the Matrix instrument panel with on board computer are all elements setting the Dorsoduro apart as a unique and exclusive project. The Dorsoduro is also available with ABS and Aprilia Traction Control (ATC), for total fun in total safety.

2012 Aprilia Dorosoduro 1200 Model Highlights

The most significant characteristics of the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 in detail:

- 90° V-twin engine with four valves per cylinder, double overhead camshaft, liquid cooling and twin spark ignition;
- Triple map Ride by Wire technology (with Sport, Touring and Rain maps)
- Electronic fuel injection;
- Mixed gear/chain valve timing system;
- Exhaust system with three-way catalytic converter and oxygen sensor;
- Ultralight modular frame made from tubular steel trellis/aluminium castings offering outstanding torsional stiffness;
- Aluminium saddle mounting;
- Aluminium swingarm with lateral shock absorber;
- Fully adjustable 43 mm upside-down front fork and piggy-back design rear monoshock;
- Brembo racing brake system with radial callipers;
- Lighter three-spoke alloy wheel rims (-2 kg).

DESIGN

2012 Aprilia Dorosoduro 1200 Motorcycle Photos 1Dorsoduro 1200 is a radical, outrageously agile and sporty bike. It makes no concessions whatsoever for ornamentation or for anything not directly functional in achieving total performance and riding pleasure. This is why all body parts are cut down to the bare minimum; just like a proper race machine, the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 eliminates anything that is of no use to the rider. No frills, for a bike that prefers to put its superlative mechanicals and componentry on show instead. Every detail is minimised and focused on pure function, such as the hand guards and the motard-style race number panel, which also offers wind protection at higher speeds. These elements complement the pure design of the Dorsoduro 1200 perfectly, with an outstanding attention to detail evident in features such as the two-tone paintwork of the frame, the tail fairing colour-coded with the rest of the body elements and the dual exhaust with black heat shields. Even the 15 litre fuel tank is perfectly integrated into the sleek forms of the Dorsoduro 1200.

THE 1200 cc V90 ENGINE: THE STATE OF THE ART IN TWIN CYLINDER TECHNOLOGY

The Aprilia V90 is a modern, technologically advanced unit with a highly oversquare cylinder geometry for a markedly sporty temperament and smooth power delivery.

Every internal element of the Dorsoduro 1200 has been designed to optimise power delivery and make full use of the incredible 130 hp unleashed by the engine at 8700 rpm. Every single detail is conceived to complement the outrageously acrobatic character of the bike.

- 90° V-twin architecture;
- Triple map Ride by Wire technology (with Sport, Touring and Rain maps);
- Highly oversquare bore/stroke ratio;
- Offset cylinders for maximum lateral compactness;
- Four valves per cylinder;
- Double overhead camshafts driven by a mixed chain/gear valve timing system;
- Twin spark ignition for smooth but full-bore power delivery;
- Electronic fuel injection with dual throttle bodies;
- Stick-coils integrated in spark plug boots;
- Three-way catalytic converter with oxygen sensor;
- Hydraulically operated clutch.

The latest generation injection system uses micro-nebuliser injectors. In conjunction with optimised fluid dynamics, this solution ensures ideal combustion, for an engine that is not only powerful but also extremely clean. Twin spark ignition also contributes to cleaner emissions, as well as ensuring totally smooth power delivery.

2012 Aprilia Dorosoduro 1200 Motorcycle Photos 2Aprilia was the first manufacturer to believe in the potential of Ride by Wire, a highly sophisticated technology that helps the rider extract every ounce of performance from the motorcycle. The electronic throttle management system used in the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 represents the current state of the art. Even more precise and sophisticated maps ensure optimised engine management, keeping the engine in the perfect conditions to deliver maximum acceleration at all times for a riding experience unlike anything you've ever seen before. This solution also ensures smoother, fuller power delivery at low and medium engine speeds, for optimised engine efficiency even in low load, partial throttle conditions.

With its triple maps (Rain, Touring and Sport), the bike has three distinct personalities that the rider can choose from at any time to instantaneously suit every possible condition and preference. Simply close the throttle and press a button to choose the desired setting.

SPORT: extreme, for when you want to put yourself to the test with immediate and direct explosive power.

TOURING: smooth, for making full use of the shattering power of the 1200 cc engine in all conditions.

RAIN: balanced, with power reigned in to 100 hp for maximum fun even in poor grip or wet conditions.

With its state-of-art technology, the Aprilia V90 unleashes class-beating levels of power. No other maxi motard comes close to the performance of the Dorsoduro 1200: with 130 hp at 8,700 rpm and a maximum torque of 115 Nm at 7,200 rpm, this engine sets new records for the motard genre. To further emphasise the performance of the engine, a 2-into-1-into-2 exhaust system has been designed specifically for the bike. Made entirely from stainless steel, the generous internal volume of the system ensures a spine-tingling and distinctive sound.

THE FRAME: FEATHER-LIGHT BUT ULTRA-STIFF

True to Aprilia tradition, Dorsoduro 1200 is the most effective, best balanced bike in its class. While tailored for total riding fun, as with all Aprilia bikes, the chassis layout of the Dorsoduro also earns respect for its formidable dynamic balance. With the Dorsoduro, extreme agility does come at the cost of a nervous temperament, and its highly effective chassis layout ensures total precision and a sensation of being directly connected to the front wheel. And this is something that can only be said of very few motards out there.

The mixed frame design, constructed with a sturdy tubular steel trellis mated to lateral aluminium plates, is highly acclaimed by both enthusiasts and experts alike, while the aluminium saddle mounting contributes to lightening the bike. The product of Aprilia's experience in the world Supermoto championship, the frame offers perfect balance in terms of stiffness to deliver supreme handling, even with the explosive power of the 1200 cc V90.

The three-spoke lighter alloy wheel rims want to empasize the handling skills of Dorsoduro 1200. Thanks to the weight reduction compared to the previous component (-2 kg), the harmful gyroscopic effect is attenuated. Dorsoduro 1200 became even more agile, following the rider's cornering orders with the speed of a true benchmark.

SUSPENSION: PERFORMANCE UNDER CONTROL

The suspension of the Dorsoduro 1200 has been designed to fully exploit the incredible performance of the engine and offer the best solutions that anyone could ever desire in an extreme motard. The 43 mm Sachs upside-down fork with shell-cast calliper brackets features adjustable spring preload and hydraulic compression and rebound damping. In addition to permitting total adjustability, this extremely sophisticated component offers class-beating progressiveness and a full 160 mm of wheel travel, in perfect keeping with the supermoto riding style.

The side-mounted Sachs gas shock absorber with separate canister is pivoted directly onto the swingarm in a cantilever configuration and features adjustable spring preload and hydraulic compression and rebound damping. A component allowing experienced riders to explore the full potential of the bike's performance, even on the track. The rear wheel stroke is 155mm, again in line with the supermoto philosophy that aims for an effective, controlled suspension but with a long stroke.

BRAKES: RACING TECHNOLOGY - ALSO AVAILABLE WITH ABS

The Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 adopts the state of the art in brake technology: at the front are 4-piston radial Brembo callipers gripping 320 mm floating discs. The 240 mm rear disc is also braked by a Brembo calliper - in this case a single piston unit.

Both the front and rear brake systems employ aeronautical grade metal braided hoses, which eliminate the undesirable pressure fluctuations of conventional hoses for maximum braking precision and truly class-beating stopping performance.

Dorsoduro 1200 is also available with a two-channel ABS system, which can be deactivated by the user directly from the instrument panel. This ABS system is specifically calibrated to let the rider fully exploit the power of the brakes and the grip of the tyres in the dry, so as not to detract from the immense fun of this bike.

The Dorsoduro 1200 is also the only maxi-motard available today with traction control: Aprilia Traction Control (ATC), an exclusive traction control system working in conjunction with the sophisticated ABS system, which allows the rider to make full use of the performance of the exuberant 1200 cc engine, to tackle even the most challenging terrain and most difficult conditions in safety.

When active, the system offers three different selectable traction control levels which adapt each of the bike's dynamic parameters to suit the personal needs and preferences of the rider:

Level 1: for an extreme riding experience and maximum fun and adrenaline, when curbing the incredible power of the engine is the last thing on your mind.
Level 2: for total control in all terrain conditions and maximum thrill factor.
Level 3: ideal for tackling challenging conditions, such as slippery roads where grip is poor.

COMPONENTRY: TOP OF THE CLASS

Motards are by definition essential or even spartan. This, however, does not mean having to do without class-beating premium content. Aprilia moves the bar even higher for its rivals with top class features components. The most significant of these are:

- Matrix instrument panel: the mixed digital-analogue instrument panel receives information via the CAN line and, with its own dedicated event log memory, is an integral part of the self-diagnostic system. Particularly compact, with a modern design and considerably reduced weight. All functions are accessible from a control on the handlebar. The LED backlight - white for the analogue area and red for the digital display - has three different brightness settings.

- The anodised aluminium tapered handlebar is an unequivocal reference to competition supermoto bikes. An incredibly light component, designed to guarantee top dynamic control of the bike.

- Ensuring consistently precise engagement and exemplary smoothness, the hydraulic clutch is self-adjusting and, as a result, maintenance-free.

2013 Yamaha VMAX Hyper Modified Marcus Walz

Hardcore to the Vmax

Marcus bought his first bike, a Yamaha RD350LC, at the age of 18. He knows what makes Yamaha unique. After bowing out of Moto Cross in 1992, following a serious accident, Marcus invested the proceeds from the sale of his machine into a set of tools and a bike-lift. He set up a workshop in a converted barn and established Walz Hardcore Cycles.

2013 Yamaha VMAX Hyper Modified Marcus Walz Motorcycle Photos 1All Muscle. All Brains.

Unlike any other motorcycle available today, the 2013 Yamaha VMAX is truly in a class of its own. The awesome acceleration and muscular beauty combines with sporty handling and Yamaha's latest electronic engine management technologies to offer an incredibly exhilarating riding experience.

The 2013 Yamaha VMAX is the ultimate fusion of brawn and brains. The unique features of this iconic beast are richly blended with advanced sportbike technology and forward thinking style. It all adds up to a machine with immense performance and visual power. The 2013 V-Max truly is in a class by itself.

You ride muscle bikes for very visceral reasons - the dominating growl of the engine, the knowledge that vast power is yours to easily control, the quiet awe of passers-by. The VMAX delivers all of these and more.

This radically-styled muscle bike became an instant legend when the first versions rolled onto the streets and drag strips in 1985, and the current incarnation continues those traditions of brawn and beauty, with massive, muscular design to match the vast power of the engine.

Ride one today to experience astonishing power in a domineering frame, and the simple pleasure of riding one of the most iconic muscle bikes around.

The legend continues.

In '85 the original V-Max turned the motorcycle world on its ear. Our engineers took a big dose of the original "Mad Max" DNA then added a bunch of Yamaha's latest sport bike technologies like our chip controlled variable intake stacks, a high tech fuel injection system and our famous fly by wire throttle. The result is the next generation VMAX. The legendary sound, engine character and amazing acceleration are all part of the latest design but there is a twist. The VMAX offers truly sporty handling, thanks to its lightweight aluminium chassis and fully adjustable suspension. Scorched any pavement lately?

2013 Yamaha VMAX Hyper Modified Marcus Walz Motorcycle Photos 2VMAX, Power, Performance, Adrenaline

This fast and monstrously powerful machine continues in the traditions of the original VMAX from 1985, with head-turning looks and a distinctive growl.

The current incarnation puts a bigger engine in a more compact chassis to give awesome acceleration and precise handling. It comes with a 1,679cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke V4 engine that delivers huge torque and gives the rider previously unimaginable levels of power.

And that power is all contained within a dramatic, black, low-profile aluminium frame with giant front forks and massive, aggressively-styled aluminium air intakes. This is a muscle bike for the 21st century

A legend reborn

Ever thought how hard it would be to make a sequel to a legend? Your design would have to reiterate the original mission statement, then forge a bold and captivating new personality (while still respecting certain styling expectations the market will have). You’d have to eclipse all previous parameters of performance, and finally, get these goals to crystallise into a single design so expertly as to create a motorcycle the likes of which the world has never seen – like the 200ps, 166 Nm Intelligent Monster you see here. A musclebike of immense presence and value, with awesome acceleration and incredible control, VMAX will provide a select few riders with sensations and emotions that others can merely dream about.

Lightweight aluminum chassis puts the engine low and forward for mass centralization, resulting in a machine designed to handle curves as well as straightaways.

Borrowing liberally from advanced sportbike technology, VMAX features a slipper clutch, wave-style brake discs, ABS, and complete suspension adjustability front and rear.

Functionality and forward-thinking style uniquely combine with features like oxidized-titanium-coated 52mm front fork tubes, magnesium engine side covers, fluorinated polyethylene fuel tank and the organic electroluminescence multifunction display.

Full power - The 1,679cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke V4 engine offers huge torque from a visually intimidating powerplant. Iridium spark plugs ensure extremely efficient combustion at all engine speeds - and for the rider, this means previously unimaginable levels of power, whether from a standing-start or roll-on acceleration.

Low-profile frame - The VMAX is a dramatic machine. Its black, low-profile aluminium frame spars arc forcefully across the top, while the giant tubes on the front forks are like nothing else seen on any other bike. Its unique character is further emphasised by four massive, aggressively-styled, hand-finished aluminium air intakes.

Mighty mufflers - The four single-expansion mufflers are short and upswept, and emit a strong and pleasing exhaust sound with a hearty pulsing sensation that announces your presence. The high quality silencers are manufactured from lightweight titanium, and finished in shot blast to complement the mean and moody look of the black frame and engine.

Rigid forks - The massive tubes on the front forks are perfectly in keeping with this bike's unique character. They also offer excellent rigidity and the front suspension delivers a smooth ride, great handling, and is fully adjustable for preload, to suit the riders own requirements.

Strong grip - A big bike needs big wheels, and the VMAX doesn't disappoint. The 1,700 mm wheelbase gives outstanding straight line stability, and the handling is further enhanced by 18 inch front and rear wheels that have specially-developed tyres to optimise grip, shock absorption and road holding.

Iridium sparks - As well as advanced chip-controlled technology, the VMAX also runs with Iridium spark plugs. These special plugs are used on the majority of high performance motorcycles, and are designed to ensure extremely efficient combustion at all engine speeds.

2013 Yamaha VMAX Features and Benefits

Engine:

• Liquid-cooled, 1,679cc, DOHC, 16-valve, 65°, V-4 engine has no equal in its class. The compact engine design has allowed the engineers to place the engine in the "sweet spot" of the frame to optimize handling.

• DOHC 4-valve "pent roof" cylinder head design provides optimum breathing efficiency for incredible engine performance. Valve actuation is via under bucket shims. Compression ratio is 11.3:1.

• Steel valves are used for excellent durability. Intake valves are 34mm in diameter with a 14-degree valve angle while exhaust valves are 30mm with a 15 degree valve angle.

• "Combination" chain and gear camshaft drive system is utilized. With this system, only the intake cams are driven by a chain (attached to the crank), the exhaust cams are driven by a gear drive off the intake cams. This design allows for more compact cylinder heads since the distance or "pitch" between the camshafts is reduced.

• High-performance camshafts provide incredible engine performance. Centrifugal decompression device on the exhaust cam means fast, easy starting.

• Automatic hydraulic cam chain tensioners reduce engine mechanical noise.

• Lightweight, forged, aluminium short skirt pistons help provide fast throttle response, reduced vibration and provide excellent durability.

• Connecting rods are carburized and use a nut less design. The lower end "cap" of the rod is made from the same piece of material as the upper portion; this design is known as "fracture splitting". This design aids in establishing true big end roundness, greater precision in con rod dimensions and are extremely durable.

• 180-degree crankshaft design is utilized.

• Gear-driven engine counter balancer shaft is used to reduce vibration and maximize rider comfort. The balance ratio is 50% to allow some pulse feel. Since the crank design is 180 degrees, there is also some inherent natural balancing effect as well.

• Twin radiator design features a curved upper rad and lower flat rad for maximum cooling efficiency. Each rad has its own cooling fan.

• An oil-to-coolant heat exchanger type oil cooler maintains stable lubricant temperatures for increased performance and extended engine life.

• Wet sump oil lubrication system is used and features a spin-on type oil filter.

• Mikuni fuel injection system uses four 48mm throttle bodies fitted with T.P.S. (Throttle Position Sensor) and numerous other sensors. An oxygen sensor has been fitted into the exhaust making this a "closed loop" type FI system. The benefits include excellent throttle response, great fuel economy, reduced emissions, stable idling and no choke to fuss with during start up. The closed loop design means the system is constantly monitoring the fuel / air mixture and adjusting it as required for maximum performance plus reduced emissions.

• Denso 12-hole injectors are used for excellent fuel atomization for maximum power and response across the entire rev range.

• The VMAX utilizes a lightweight main Electronic Control Unit (ECU) that in fact consists of 3 - ECUs in total. The main 32-bit ECU controls the ignition and fuel injection process, while a 2nd and 3rd integral ECU controls the YCC-T & YCC-I. This "combined" ECU design reduces weight.

• YCC-I or Yamaha's Chip Controlled Intake means the intake funnels / stacks vary in length (between 2 positions) depending on engine rpm. An electronic servo motor varies the funnel length from 150mm (for low to mid rpms) to the short setting of 54mm for high rpm. The transition or switching rpm between the 2 lengths is 6,650 rpms. The revolutionary YCC-I provides the best of both worlds, solid low rpm torque and power combined with an amazing high rpm rush. It takes only 0.3 of a second for the funnels to move from the tall to the short position.

• Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) electronically controls the throttle valves for outstanding response and improved controllability at all rpms. This system features twin Throttle Position Sensors (TPS) and a D.C. motor driving the throttle valves. The YCC-T is used to provide even more control of the intake air volume for smoother torque character. The rider can "mechanically close" the throttles by simply closing the throttle twist grip.

• Large capacity air box uses a viscous-type paper air filter.

• Air Induction System (AIS) injects fresh air into the exhaust port area to fully combust any un-burnt fuel, reducing harmful HC and CO emissions for a cleaner environment.

• 4-into-1-into-2 into-4 exhaust system is used. Not only does it make a serious styling statement but also provides excellent performance and reduced emissions thanks to a 3-way honeycomb catalytic converter in the under engine "muffler box". It also features Yamaha's patented Exhaust Ultimate Power Valve (EXUP). This system monitors engine rpm and adjusts exhaust flow (via the EXUP valve) for maximum performance at all rpms with no "flat spots". This system helps to improve torque, optimize fuel economy and reduces emissions too.

• Crankcase design incorporates the cylinders into the upper half of the cases for reduced weight. Ceramic composite cylinder "bores" are a "liner-less" design with the ceramic coating sprayed directly on the aluminium block to ensure great heat dissipation for consistent power delivery, reduced friction and reduced weight.

• Open deck type cylinder design is used for maximum cooling efficiency.

• Lightweight magnesium alloy crankcase covers are used.

• Hydraulically activated, ramp-type slipper clutch featuring 10 friction plates is used to deliver consistent clutch performance with a light lever pull and minimal maintenance. A slipper or back limiter clutch assembly reduces rear wheel hop when making hard downshifts or under hard braking. The clutch master cylinder is a Nissin design using a 14mm piston. The clutch lever offers 4 positions of adjustability.

• 5-speed transmission features optimized gear ratios for maximum acceleration and performance. 5th gear is an overdrive gear to reduce engine rpm at highway speeds for a comfortable ride.

• Clean, quiet low-maintenance shaft drive is used. This system features dual "U" joints to accommodate the extra wide rear tire.

• Compact shaft drive gear case assembly reduces weight and improves styling.

• Functional hand finished aluminium intake covers highlight Yamaha's quality and attention to detail.

• ACM magneto produces 420 watts of power at 5,000 rpms.

• Maintenance-freetransistor controlled ignition (T.C.I.) provides a hot spark for sure starts and strong engine performance.

• High-performance direct ignition coils (ignition coil is built into the spark plug cap) reduce weight while iridium spark plugs and high-output magneto deliver increased spark energy.

Chassis and Suspension:

• Lightweight cast aluminium frame has been designed to offer an optimized rigidity balance to maximize handling performance. This frame is very rigid or stiff at the head pipe, engine mounts and swingarm pivot point. In other areas, material is less rigid in order to allow for "tuned flex".

• Extra-long, lightweight cast aluminium swingarm provides great torsional rigidity for excellent handling and manoeuvrability. The distance between the swingarm pivot and the rear axle has been optimized (662.5mm) for great rear wheel traction. Threaded holes for accessory racing type rear stand are provided.

• Detachable C.F. die cast aluminium and extruded aluminium rear sub frame means easier maintenance access (and a less costly repair if the unit is "looped out").

• Huge fully adjustable, conventional cartridge-type 52mm front fork features 120mm (4.7") of road-smoothing wheel travel. The inner tubes feature a oxide titanium coating to reduce friction and wear. The adjustable design allows the rider to tailor suspension settings to match rider's weight and road conditions to maximize handling and suspension performance. There is 5-way spring preload adjustability plus 20-way compression damping and 17-way rebound damping adjustability.

• Lightweight triple clamps. The upper is made of cast aluminium while the lower clamp is forged aluminium. Fork pitch is 225mm while offset is 30mm.

• Link Monocross rear suspension utilizes a fully adjustable remote reservoir rear shock. Rear wheel travel is 110mm (4.3"). Adjustments include 11 way spring preload adjustability (via easy-access remote adjuster), 12-way compression damping and 18-way rebound damping adjustability.

• 15-litre fluorinated polyethylene fuel tank is mounted below the rider's seat and therefore helps maintain a low centre of gravity plus mass centralization. It also provides space for the large capacity air box. The fluorination treatment reduces the "permeation" of fuel vapours (hydrocarbons) into the atmosphere. The electric fuel pump is housed inside the tank. The low fuel warning light will illuminate with approx. 4.2 litres of fuel remaining.

• Dual floating 320mm wave-style front rotors are squeezed by radial mount, monoblock 6-piston calipers. The result is incredible braking performance with excellent control and lever feedback. The master cylinder is a Brembo radial pump master cylinder with a 16mm piston, a direct GP race innovation. The lever is adjustable for various hand sizes.

• 298mm wave-style rear disc is squeezed by a single-piston slide-type caliper utilizing sintered metal pads and a 14mm Brembo master. The caliper is mounted below the swingram to maintain a handling enhancing low centre of gravity.

• Anti-lock braking system features Yamaha's latest ABS system, very similar to that found on the FJR1300. The linear controlled 3-position ABS system features an ECU with an integrated compact hydraulic unit built into the ECU plus active type wheel sensors with magnetic rotors. The benefit is reduced weight, excellent mass centralization and better lever feedback when the system is operating. The main benefit of ABS is excellent control under hard braking or braking on wet or slippery surfaces since the ABS system helps to prevents wheel lock-up.

• Rugged yet lightweight cast aluminium 5-spoke mag wheels front and rear. The wheels utilize hollow "spokes" to reduce unsprung weight for superior handling. Front rim size is a 3.50 x 18 fitted with a tubeless 120/70R18 radial tire, while the rear is 6.00 x 18 fitted with a wide tubeless 200/50R18 radial tire.

• Conventional tapered 1?" diameter low rise handlebar.

• Cool multi-function handlebar mounted meter includes analog tachometer and digital speedo plus an adjustable shift light and a variety of warning lights. A second multi-function display panel is located on top of the "fuel tank" (actually it is the air box cover). Readouts on this panel include fuel gauge, fuel consumption display, odometer, dual tripmeters, clock, coolant temp, gear indicator, throttle valve opening, intake air temp, stop watch and fuel reserve tripmeter. This panel uses a highly visible 256 x 64 dot matrix "Organic Electro Luminescence display". Brightness is adjustable.

• Bright, H4 60/55-watt, halogen headlight

• Eye-catching LED tail light means it uses less electrical power.

Additional Features:

• Immobilizer ignition system is designed to reduce the possibility of "ride-away" theft. This system must recognize the "coded ignition key" in order for the unit to start. If the immobilizer ignition does not recognize the key (or a screwdriver or other type of "jimmy tool") the bike will not start even if the ignition is turned or forced into the on position. If the system does not recognize the coded chip in the ignition key, it will not allow the ignition system, fuel pump or starter motor to function.

• High-performance, long-life Iridium spark plugs
• Lightweight forged aluminium shift lever and rear brake pedal
• Low-fuel warning light
• Low maintenance, lightweight, sealed battery
• Stylish key with special key case holder
• Lean angle engine kill switch prevents unit from running if it is on its side to avoid engine damage.
