2012 MV Agusta Brutale 1090R Review

Lining up next to the Brutale 920, the entry level motorcycle in the MV Agusta four cylinder family, the new Brutale R 1090 is born and is the new market reference.

The MV Agusta model line-up is expanding with the introduction of the new BRUTALE 1090R. This incredible naked has enamored the motorcycle world with its unique design that has been to date unequaled. Ever since its introduction the BRUTALE has continued to be the leader in both design and performance. With the launching of the new BRUTALE, the most beautiful and powerful naked is now within reach of an even larger number of riders whom have always dreamed of experiencing the emotions only the BRUTALE can deliver. A new engine configuration, new chassis settings, a onepiece seat design with a focus on comfort, the BRUTALE 1090R offers a new interpretation of a high performance naked. A motorcycle that offers aggressive styling and raw performance matched with an intuitive chassis. A Brutale that is always incredibly easy to ride, has never been this comfortable and intuitive.

On a cost per performance basis, the BRUTALE 1090R is without a doubt the new reference in the naked sport category. A technologically advanced 4 cylinder engine with radial intake and exhaust valves , the same advanced engine control unit as the 1090RR paired with one of the most evolved chassis’; the BRUTALE 1090R is able to easily tame even the most demanding roads and racetracks.

This advanced performance is also coupled with a new look, with the color black dominating the new styling of the radiator shrouds and seat. But, looks are not everything and a major focus was also placed on rider comfort with a re-designed single seat that improves both rider and passenger comfort during every day use.

The BRUTALE project continues to remain faithful to the original objectives, MV wanted to build the most compact and light weight naked coupled with a superbike chassis together with raw engine performance that would enamor even the most demanding motorcyclist.

2012 MV Agusta Brutale 1090R Features and Benefits

The engine is the high performance 1078cc four cylinder with radial intake and exhaust valves, the largest displacement engine ever built by MV Agusta. It is a volcano of power and torque with 106 kW (144 hp) at 10.300 rpm.

The frame is a mix of steel and aluminum mated to a Marzocchi 50mm USD front fork and a Sachs rear shock, both with valving specific to the Brutale R 1090 capable of taming the most torturous roads and demanding race tracks. The Brutale R 1090 also employs a 190/55 – ZR17 rear tyre that guarantees optimal grip, even during the most extreme conditions.

The Electronic Engine Control Unit has been programmed with a mapping that has been developed specifically for this new model, combining an optimal engine control coupled with 8 levels of traction control that can be selected by the rider.

Brutale R 1090, raw power mated with ergonomics that have also been developed with a passenger in mind thanks to the new one-piece seat with increased dimensions and refined styling that you have come to expect from an MV Agusta.

The Brutale R 1090 is the perfect motorcycle for those who are searching for a motorcycle in its essential form coupled with exceptional performance and unique design.

The principle characteristics of the new BRUTALE are:

- Four cylinder engine with radial valves - Magneti Marelli 5SM engine control module - Traction control with 8 levels of intervention - Tubular steel frame coupled with aluminum side plates for maximum torsional rigidity - Single sided swingarm with a adjustable Sachs rear shock - Marzocchi upside down 50mm adjustable front forks - Brembo racing radial calipers - New single piece seat that is both lower and narrower

The Design

The new BRUTALE 1090R is without a doubt Brutale, but at the same time this is a new interpretation of the most admired naked in the world. The attention to detail is what makes this new model different and even easier to use in everyday riding. The single piece seat is both more comfortable for the rider as well as the passenger, the turn signals are no longer integrated into the mirrors but have been placed in a position for better visibility during city traffic, the suspension is now softer and more comfortable. A Brutale that is easier to use than ever before but with the same maniacal attention to detail that one has come to expect from MV Agusta. Just one look at the tubular steel frame, the anodized handlebars with pivoting clamps, the pure form of design of the shift and brake levers, the single sided swingarm and unique wheels and it clear why the Brutale is the most beautiful naked in the world.

The two available color schemes are black and white. The single sided swingarm along with the unmistakable styling make this new BRUTALE unique. A masterpiece of Italian Design, the attention to detail and monochromatic color schemes helps to highlight the technical details like the over-under side mounted exhaust and the original MV Agusta frame design integrating tubular steel and aluminum side plates.

The Engine

1078cc for 144 hp: the new in-line four cylinder engine rises to the top of the naked motorcycle class. It derived from the base engine featured on the 990R therefore there are no variations in layout but it has been reconfigured for smoother more progressive throttle response, more solid, and harmonious than before, especially when opening-closing and when accelerating. The same 46 mm Mikuni throttle body assembly is used, with the installation of a non-return feed that is operated by Marelli 5SM electronics that feature a new 8 step traction control. As with the 990R, the engine crank case is 1.32 lbs lighter than the previous one, and is fitted with a counter-rotating balancing shaft to resist high-frequency secondary vibrations, which has been placed at the front of the engine and is driven directly by the primary transmission gear. The transmission ratios remain the same while the internal gearbox command mechanism is entirely new, redesigned to allow adopting a gear sensor, and to provide a smoother and more comfortable shift of the lever. The list of new components continues along the guidelines of the 990R: there is a new Mitsubishi, Neodymium-Iron-Boron generator that weighs a full 3.52 lbs less than the previous version; the lubrication circuit has also been entirely renewed, with a double rotor pump which is smaller and lighter (by 0.75 lb), but more efficient than the previous version. The circuit is no longer divided, as it was before, and the pump serves the radiator and the engine which are placed in series. The water pump, too, has been completely redesigned, and although it is 0.13 lb lighter than the previous one, its cooling capacity is up to 65% greater at low revs.

The chassis

The BRUTALE 1090R shares its chassis configuration and geometry with the 990R and 1090RR as well as most of the chassis components. The frame is a mixture of a steel trellis structure and lateral aluminum plates that has become the trademark of MV Agusta since the first application on the F4, a frame structure that has been continually copied but never equaled by other manufacturers. The chassis dimensions are the same as on the other Brutale models offering a perfect dynamic balance and a precise response to rider inputs. With a 1430 mm wheelbase, 25° steering head angle and 103,5 mm of trail the new BRUTALE 1090R offers without a doubt the best balance of agility and stability. A technical feature the new BRUTALE 1090R is a new steering head which offers optimized rigidity for this type of naked which will without a doubt become the new reference for easy handling. Coupled with the revised steering head design is new suspension valving which is both softer and smoother to give the maximum amount of feedback even to less experienced riders. But, make no mistakes, the new BRUTALE 1090R is still Brutale, thanks to the infinite amount of tuning possible with the 50 mm Marzocchi USD front forks and Sachs mono shock. With just a few clicks you can easily transform the BRUTALE into a track weapon. BRUTALE is also known for its agility: coupled with the new Pirelli Angel tires the feedback from the tarmac is always immediate and the 190/55 section rear tire aids in putting down the 144 horsepower from the MV 4 cylinder engine. Performance of a supersport and handle of a middleweight, the new BRUTALE from MV Agusta continues to redefine the naked sportbike segment.

The Brutale R 1090 will have 3 different color schemes; white, red and black. It will be available in dealers by the end of September 2011.

Ducati 848EVO - ExcitementEVO

Iconic features from World Championship-winning machines, are all part of the 848's DNA and, in constant pursuit of perfection, Ducati engineers enhanced specification to deliver impressive performance, whether racing through track-day competition or just riding through mid-town traffic. *Corse Special Edition

The 848EVO Testastretta Evoluzione engine

The 848EVO is powered by a liquid cooled, L-Twin, Desmodromic engine producing 140hp (103kW) @ 10,500rpm and a high-accelerating 72.3lb-ft (10kgm) of torque @ 9,750rpm. The 94mm x 61.2mm bore and stroke breathes through 4 valves per cylinder fed by revised inlet port shapes and racing-style elliptical throttle bodies, which have an equivalent diameter of 60mm. The EVO's piston crown and combustion chamber shape improves burn efficiency, while the 13.2:1 compression ratio and performance-driven camshafts provide 13mm of valve-lift and 257° of inlet duration.

Electronically injected and ignited by Marelli, the super-efficient power unit then exhausts through a lightweight 2-1-2 system equipped with a catalytic converter and to twin lambda probes for smooth mapping and Euro3 conformity. Terminating in twin under-seat silencers, the system delivers that unmistakable signature sound of the Desmo 90° L-Twin.

The highly advanced 848 engine was the first Ducati Superbike to introduce vacuum die-cast crankcases, formed using Vacural® technology, a process that achieves a significant weight saving and ensures consistent wall thickness and increased strength.

848EVO Chassis

The 848EVO chassis and suspension are the result of a 'performance-first' priority approach to development, in which the goals are always to achieve lightweight with high strength and rigidity to manage the highpowered Testastretta Evoluzione engines. Developed in cooperation with Ducati Corse, the lightweight Trellis frame features 34mm main section tubes with a material thickness of 1.5mm.

Producing a front sub-frame in magnesium underlines the attention to weight-saving detail Its construction provides secure support for the headlamp, instruments and fairing, and the weight-saving around this high, forward position contributes considerably to overall 'feel' and control of the machine.

The dual construction technique used for the single-sided swingarm allows the main operational components to use individual aluminium castings so as to ensure strength around the pivot points, wheel hub and suspension links, while lightweight, fabricated aluminium sections are used to complete the construction into a single, beautifully engineered component. The 848EVO swingarm is then presented in a sophisticated black-anodised finish.

The lightweight front wheels used on all Ducati Superbike models substantially reduces the moment of inertia, enabling a faster change of direction and enhanced acceleration and braking performances. The 848EVO is equipped with Y-shaped, 5-spoke wheels finished in black and mounted with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP 120/70 ZR17 front and 180/55 ZR17 rear tyres.

The 848EVO features fully adjustable 43mm Showa forks with radial brake calliper mountings, which provide superior road holding and precise feedback. A control-enhancing steering damper maintains perfect frontend stability, inspiring supreme control and confidence alongside the increased power output.

The lightweight Trellis frame and single-sided swingarm enable a compact and weight-saving rear suspension linkage system, which features separate lower pick-up points for the push-rod and fully adjustable Showa single shock suspension unit. This 'tandem' design effectively reduces stress around the linkage pick-up area of the Trellis frame. The 848EVO Corse Special Edition raises the specification even higher with a fully adjustable Öhlins rear shock offering enhanced feel for performance-hungry sport riders.

848EVO Monobloc brakes

Ducati Superbikes have always been famous for their incredible, track-derived braking performance and the 848EVO is no exception. Featuring Brembo's powerful Monobloc calliper racing technology applied to 320mm discs, the EVO's incredible braking capability is a result of Ducati's continual quest for responsible performance.

Machined from a single piece of alloy, the callipers achieve a higher rigidity and resistance to distortion during extreme braking. The resulting increase in hydraulic efficiency not only delivers incredible braking power, but also provides an enhanced and precise 'feel' at the brake lever. The twin Monobloc callipers each have four 34mm pistons that grip 320mm discs to help generate planet-stopping braking. The 848EVO Corse Special Edition takes that Monobloc braking experience to the next level with full Superbike-style 330mm front discs.

848EVO Aerodynamic bodywork

Carefully designed for aerodynamic efficiency and to hug the sleek lines of the chassis, the Superbike bodywork enables the rider to blend effortlessly into the correct riding position. Its race-developed fairing design ensures perfect integration with the cooling system by providing efficient flow through the advanced, large surface area coolant radiator, which is assisted by lightweight, high flow
electric fan assemblies and oil coolers. Aerodynamically shaped air ducts positioned just below the headlamps are precisely calculated to provide ample air delivery to the pressurised airbox.

The lightweight bodywork contributes considerably to overall performance by reducing weight, protecting the Testastretta Evoluzione engine's power output, and assisting the rider to effortlessly 'tuck in' from the wind stream and reduce drag to achieve maximum straight-line track speeds.

848EVO Instrumentation

This pure racing digital instrumentation originating from Ducati's GP project has no switches or buttons to compromise its clean, minimalist lines. Instead, information additional to the default read-outs is managed from the left-hand handlebar-mounted switch gear, allowing the rider to scroll through and select from various menus.

The display, which has a bright white LED back lighting presents rpm and speed, with the former displayed across the screen in a progressive bar graph. Optionally, the rpm and speed can be displayed in numeric values. Additionally, it displays lap times, DTC level selected (if activated on the Corse Special Edition) time, air temperature, coolant temperature, battery voltage, two trips and a trip that automatically starts as the fuel system goes onto reserve. Warning lights illuminate to signify neutral, turn signals, high-beam, rev-limit, low oil pressure, fuel reserve, DTC intervention selected (if activated on the Corse Special Edition) and scheduled maintenance. The instrument display is also used as the control panels for the DDA (available as an accessory by Ducati Performance), DTC and DQS systems (Corse Special Edition version) as well as listing lap times recorded by using the high-beam flash button as a stopwatch.

848EVO lights and indicators

The horizontal twin headlamps are modernised interpretations of the iconic 916, restyled and updated with the latest lighting technology. Two polyellipsoidal units light the way with a powerful beam while maintaining an aggressive look to the front of the machine in pure Ducati Superbike tradition. The rear light employs a specially designed strip of LEDs enhanced by a high diffusion lens shaped into the sleek lines of the tailpiece. The same LEDs are intensified for brake lights.

The directional indicators also use the latest in LED technology for illumination. The frontal indicators are beautifully integrated into the rear view mirrors, which come with an optional spacer kit enabling an extension of 30mm over the standard mirror stem length.

2012 Husqvarna SM50 Review

Liquid cooled two stroke engine, disc brakes, adjustable suspensions, steel chassis with the same shape as the Husqvarna racing bike, single cylinder engine with dual clutch transmission depending on the driver's expertise and competitiveness.

The line is the same as the Husqvarna Supermotard. The framework is in CrMo steel tubes with rectangular, circular and oval section; the most visible section as it connects the upper beam to the hub. The rear frame is detachable.

The fork is also in CrMo steel and supports a dual piston brake caliper in forged and anodized aluminium. The rear brake disc has a diameter of 140 mm while the front one has a diameter of 160 mm with race replica "wave" design.

Front safety is guaranteed by a system with Formula radial pump in forged and anodized aluminium with adjustable aluminium lever.

The handlebar, with practical Husqvarna personalized pads, has a diameter of 22 mm.

As regards suspension, the Marzocchi fork has 32 mm diameter piston rods and 185 mm stroke. The Sachs shock absorber has a wheel stroke of 200 mm , adjustable spring preload and Hydraulic rebound.

The carburettor is a 19 mm Dell’Orto PHBG. The fuel tank has a capacity of 2.7 litres.

2013 Yamaha V-Star 1300 Features and Benefits

Engine:

• 1304cc (80 cubic inch), liquid-cooled, short stroke, SOHC, 8-valves, 60° V-twin powerplant pumps out incredible amounts of class leading power and torque for unparalleled acceleration and cruising performance.

• Electric starting system features a mechanical centrifugal decompression device in the exhaust camshafts for easy, no-hassle starting.

• Liquid-cooling not only allows for higher state of tune because it maintains more stable operating temperatures, but also reduces mechanical noise for a quieter engine.

• In an effort to maintain the classic air-cooled appearance of the engine, cooling fins have been added as a styling touch and the rad is "hidden" between the frame down tubes.

• The short stroke engine design reduces the "height" of the engine, while the 60 degree "V" makes the engine more compact thereby centralizing mass and lowering the center of gravity for lighter more responsive handling.

• Classic V-twin "pulse feeling" and engine character highlight this powerplant while annoying vibration has been eliminated.

• One-piece cylinder heads feature 4-valves per cylinder to provide optimum breathing efficiency for maximum power output. Each head is fitted with a single long reach spark plug.

• Stylish chromed cylinder head covers.

• The SOHC valve train features 36mm intake and 32mm exhaust valves with single springs for great power and torque. Valves angles are set at 20 degrees from centre. Specially designed roller rockers activate the valves. The rocker system allows a greater amount of valve lift without producing excessive camshaft wear and friction. The slipper portion of the rocker arm features a needle bearing to further reduce wear and slide resistance. The camshafts have been specially designed for use with roller rockers.

• Optimized squish area forces the fuel / air mixture toward the centre of the combustion chamber for more complete combustion and hence improved power and cleaner emissions.

• The radiator is mounted between the front frame down tubes to minimize its appearance especially when viewing the machine from the side. Even the rad hoses have been discreetely placed for a cleaner appearance. An electric fan aids in cooling in stop and go traffic. Special cooling louvers direct air to the rad.

• Automatic hydraulic cam chain tensioners reduces mechanical noise and maintenance time.

• Ceramic composite-plated cylinders reduce weight reduce friction, increase cylinder life and provide uniform heat dissipation. The cylinders have a tapered "V" appearance to highlight the V-twin design. Cylinder bore is 100mm.

• Forged pistons offer great durability and reduced weight for faster engine response.

• Crankshaft features a single crank pin design. This specially designed crank helps to enhance the pulse feeling and engine character.

• Forged connecting rods ride on a single crank pin for that true V-twin sound and feel.

• Single axis, left and right dual engine counter balancers reduce vibration to a minimum while maximizing rider comfort.

• Crankcase design features internal oil and coolant lines for a clean, air-cooled engine appearance. There are special piston coolers that spray oil at the under side of the pistons.

• Easy access, spin on type oil filter is located under the engine. There is no need to remove any parts to access the oil filter.

• Classic side mounted 3.7 liter air box houses a high-flow viscous paper-type filter and adds that special styling touch too.

• Mikuni dual bore, 40mm throttle body fuel injection system with TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) and ISC (Idle Speed Control). This is a "closed loop" system that utilizes an oxygen sensor. The oxygen sensor feeds back info to the ECU which in turn adjusts the fuel/air mixture for maximum power with minimum emissions. The oxygen sensor is located before the mufflers, so the use of slip-ons will not affect this system. Each injector features 12 holes and a dual spray pattern for better fuel atomization and more complete combustion chamber filling. There is one injector per cylinder. Fuel injection benefits include improved fuel economy, chokeless operation, reduced emissions, and smoother running.

• High pressure electric fuel pump is located in a separate sub fuel tank below the seat.

• Maintenance-free transistor controlled ignition (T.C.I.) provides a hot spark for sure starts and strong engine performance.

• 2 into 1 exhaust system features a 3-way honeycomb catalyzier at the entry point to the muffler. The catalyzier reduces harmful exhaust emissions, while the muffler produces a throaty V-Twin growl. The rear portion of the muffler features a "slash cut" end

• Smooth-shifting, 5-speed transmission with 5th gear overdrive delivers outstanding cruising performance and reduced rpms at highway speeds. The engine is spinning at 3,400 rpm at 110 km/hr.

• Clean, quiet belt drive system is extremely low maintenance and simplifies customization. The belt is unique to the XVS1300 and features carbon cords for strength.

• The 7-spoke rear pulley has been styled to match the cast wheels.

• Air Induction System (A.I.S.) reduces harmful exhaust emissions (CO & HC).

• One piece classic heel-and-toe shifter adds versatility and enhances the overall cruising experience.

Chassis and Suspension:

• Double cradle steel frame offers roomy ergonomics, a low seat height and great handling. This frame utilizes a rigid engine mounting system to optimize the overall rigidity balance for superior handling. The rake is 32 degrees, while the lean angle is a sporty 36 degrees.

• Steel swingarm matches the frame and provides superior performance in a wide variety of conditions, while also making a bold styling statement.

• Long 1,690mm (66.5") wheelbase creates a long, low retro profile and stable handling. This chassis offers a 48% / 52 % front to rear weight distribution.

• The long low design means spacious ergonomics with lots of leg room, which maximizes both rider and passenger comfort.

• 41mm KYB front fork features stylish large-diameter brushed-finished fork covers. Wheel travel is 130mm (5.1") for a smooth, comfortable ride.

• Monocross style, spring preload-adjustable, single-shock, link rear suspension centralizes mass for agile handling. The linkage system provides a rising rate effect that provides excellent compliance on both small and large bumps. There are 9 positions of spring preload adjustability to suit rider preference.

• Rear shock is vertically mounted behind the engine and is tucked out of sight for that classic, hardtail look. Rear wheel travel is 110mm (4.3").

• Dual 298 mm, floating front discs are squeezed by compact twin piston front calipers.

• 298 mm rear disc brake is squeezed by single piston caliper mounted to the underside of the swingarm. This design not only helps to hide the caliper but also lowers the center of gravity for excellent handling.

• Lightweight 7-spoke cast aluminum wheels are fitted wide tubeless tires. The "mag" style wheels are both easy to clean and never require maintaince. The rear drive pulley matches the rear wheel design.

• Full-size, "tapered" floating-type rider floorboards are roomy and comfortably positioned while also helping to reduce vibration. There is a replaceable "scraper" area on the lower edge of the footboard.

• 1 inch, rubber mounted handlebars are easy to reach and help to reduce vibration as well.

• Front and rear fenders are steel for easy customization and painting if desired.

• 18.5 liter teardrop shaped fuel tank with flush mounted filler cap. Fuel tank seam is hidden for that clean, custom look. Reserve portion is 4.5 litres.

• Generous rider and passenger seats offer plenty of room and support for all day riding comfort. Seat height is only 690mm or 27.2 inches off the ground.

• Handlebar-mounted chromed instrument features a stylish design. Readouts include: analog speedometer, digital odometer, dual tripmeters, low fuel tripmeter, clock and low fuel warning light. Stylish red background illumination.

• Handlebar switch gear allows the operator to change instrument functions via buttons on the back of the RHS handlebar switch, thereby eliminating the need to remove hands from the bars to adjust the main instrument functions.

• 60/55 watt high intensity halogen headlight emphasizes the "wild streamline", mass forward styling design. The chromed headlight body is adjustable up and down plus left and right via remote adjusters. There are also two 35 watt accessory light connectors inside the headlight shell for accessory passing lamps.

Additional Features:

• Industry-leading Star family fit and finish features rich, lustrous paint and extensive chrome accents creating a machine as stunning as it is powerful.

• 3D fuel tank emblems enhance quality and attention to detail.
• Extra wide front brake and clutch levers provide a quality feel.
• Steering lock is integrated into the main ignition switch for extra convenience.
• Handy, under seat helmet holder
•Low-maintenance, sealed battery ensures fuss-free, dependable starting.
•Self-cancelling turn signals feature stylish clear lenses.
•High output 460 watt generator
• Chromed belt cover
